Russian Cirque Performer Critically Injured in CanadaOctober 19, 2009Last week it became apparent that, despite appearances, the the Cirque du Solei really can't do everything, immune to injury at least. Last Friday, one such performer was critically injured in Canada while rehearsing for a performance. According to a report in the Los Angele Times, the Russian performer fell off of a trampoline during a stunt, causing serious injuries to his head.

Neil Patrick Harris Turns Villian in Batman: The Brave & The Bold for Cartoon Network, 10/23October 16, 2009The Caped Crusader faces a new villain in the upcoming Batman: The Brave & The Bold episode, 'Mayhem of the Music Meister!' The episode, from Warner Bros Animation, features the voice of Neil Patrick Harris (How I Met Your Mother, Dr. Horrible's Sing-Along Blog) as the Music Meister, a menacing villain who is able to exert powerful mind-control through song. Producers and cast members received a standing ovation following a sneak-preview at Comic-Con this past July and, after much anticipation, the episode will finally air Friday, October 23 at 7:30 p.m. ET/PT on Cartoon Network.

The Actor's Fund of Canada Gets Support from Local TheatersOctober 16, 2009In a collaborative effort, the Actors' Fund of Canada will be receiving support from four of Canada's most highly regarded theater establishments: The National Arts Centre English Theater, The Stratford Shakespeare Festival, The Prairie Theatre Exchange, The Theatre North West, and Western Canada Theatre. Each of these theaters will be donating proceeds from their respective productions to benefit the fund.

Campbell was bestowed the honor, that recognizes excellence in original playwriting, in a ceremony at The REP Theatre yesterday evening. The 2009 Whiting Award, supported by the Peter Wolff Trust, took place at Birmingham Repertory Theatre. In addition to the honor, Campbell was awarded a prize of £6000.

Theaters Against War Hosts 'No Guantanamos at Home or Abroad' Vigils for Fahad, 10/19October 16, 2009Theaters Against War (THAW) is launching a new initiative to expose the current effects of the 'war on terror' in eroding human rights and civil liberties here in the US. In a call out to artists, activists and the general public, the organization will be hosting the initiative, 'No Guantanamos at Home or Abroad,' a series of vigils beginning Monday, October 19 from 6 - 7pm and every Monday thereafter at the Metropolitan Correctional Center at 150 Park Row (at Pearl Street) in lower Manhattan, a federal penitentiary that has been mirroring many of the abusive practices detainees face at Guantanamo upon actual American citizens according to THAW.
THE ROYAL FAMILY Gets Second ExtensionOctober 16, 2009Lynne Meadow (Artistic Director) and Barry Grove (Executive Producer) are pleased to announce that due to popular demand, the Manhattan Theatre Club production of George S. Kaufman's and Edna Ferber's THE ROYAL FAMILY has been extended an additional two weeks at MTC's Samuel J. Friedman Theatre (261 West 47th Street).
