Jones, the producers of Fela! have announced plans for a groundbreaking domestic and international tour of the critically acclaimed production launching in the fall of 2011. Lead producer Stephen Hendel has enlisted CAMI Spectrum's Margaret Selby in association with CAMI Theatricals' Gary McAvay to book the tour in the following US cities: Chicago, Dallas, Houston, Los Angeles, Minneapolis, Miami, Philadelphia, San Francisco, Tempe, and Washington. International engagements in Amsterdam, Melbourne, Paris, Rotterdam, Sydney and Toronto will also be scheduled.

Lin-Manuel Miranda Returns to THE HEIGHTS for LA Tour StopMay 10, 2010Broadway/L.A. has announced that Lin-Manuel Miranda, the Tony Award®-winning creator, composer-lyricist and original star of Broadway's 2008's Best Musical IN THE HEIGHTS will reprise the lead role of ‘Usnavi' when the show has its Southern California premiere engagement at the historic Pantages Theater in Los Angeles from June 22nd through July 11th. The gala opening night is Wednesday, June 23rd, following one lower-priced preview on Tuesday, June 22nd.
'Fatal Attraction' to get West End Treatment?May 10, 2010According to the U.K. Times and other published reports, the1987 film Fatal Attraction, which famously starred Michael Douglas and Glenn Close, is being adapted for the London stage by writer Hames Dearden and is being primed for a West End run as early as the end of 2010. Dearden, who also wrote the original screenplay, will set the romance thriller in the present and there is talk that the Glenn Close character, 'Alex' may live in the end of this latest incarnation. It is expected that the stage version may be all-around less violent. However, the infamous 'rabbit scene' will remain, as Dearden tells the U.K.'s Sunday Times: 'Without it the audience might demand their money back.' The play is being produced by Robert Fox.

Times Square Update: Police Issue All Clear on "Suspicious Package;" Just Water BottlesMay 7, 2010Times Square has just been given the 'all clear' by the NYPD after the streets in the surrounding area had been been evacuated due to a suspicious cooler that was left in front of 1535 Broadway at the Marriott Marquee hotel between 45th and 46th Streets and Broadway. Once reported, police immediately evacuated the area to investigate. Ambulence and the FDNY rushed to the scene as a precaution, fearing a bomb was inside. An eye witness described the scene in Times Square as 'quiet' and 'eerie.'

'One Life to Live' Broadcasts 3-Part Musical Episode Beginning 5/14May 7, 2010The Emmy-winning soap One Life to Live, will air it's highly anticipated 3 part musical episode next Friday, May 14, and production for it is in full swing. The three-day event, which SoapNet calls 'A sequel of sorts to 2007's 'Prom Night: The Musical,' is entitled 'Starr X'd Lovers' and features numbers from The Black Eyed Peas, among other famous artists. The broadcast will feature One Life to Live regulars, in addition to Broadway's Jason Tamm, who was recently seen as 'Paul' in the revival of A Chorus Line, in two numbers. He has also appeared on Broadway in Les Miserables.
STAGE TUBE: Betty White Plays Beer Pong with Jimmy FallonMay 7, 2010Betty White dropped by Late Night with Jimmy Fallon last night as part of an effort to promote her upcoming hosting gig on Saturday Night Live, and found herself challenged to a rematch of beer pong against Fallon. The two famously engaged in a match of beer pong during her previous visit, in which Fallon beat the beloved television icon. RIALTO CHATTER: Richards & Frankel to Tranfer Pacino's MERCHANT to Broadway this Fall?May 7, 2010Michael Riedel reports in the New York Post this morning that Broadway Producer Jeffrey Richards will be producing a Broadway transfer of The Public's Merchant of Venice, which will play Shakespeare in the Park at the Delacorte this summer starring Al Pacino. Richards has suffered a mostly disappointing 2010 so far, being the leading force behind this season's All About Me and Enron, both of which only lasted a mere few weeks on Broadway. Richards and his producing partner, Jerry Frankel are, however, also behind the successful Race, which has already recouped on Broadway.
