The American Theatre Wing just celebrated its 2016 Jonathan Larson Grants recipients: Cesar Alvarez (book, music and lyrics), Nikko Benson (music and lyrics), Carson Kreitzer (book and lyrics), and Sam Salmond (book, music, and lyrics).

Tony Award-winning Broadway producer Stacey Mindich was presented The Commercial Theater Institute's Robert Whitehead Award for 'outstanding achievement in commercial theatre producing' at a reception at Sardi's today, March 15, 2016. Primary Stages announced their upcoming 32nd Season on March 14 at a champagne reception celebrating the Centennial of the birth of late Pulitzer Prize-winning playwright and Primary Stages collaborator, Horton Foote.

YELLOW SOUND LABEL will release the debut American solo album from Drama Desk Award-winning theatre star JOSE LLANA on Friday, May 13. Altitude - based on his acclaimed concert at the Lincoln Center American Songbook Series last year - celebrate his 20 years on Broadway with a savvy collection of songs he performed on and off the main stem, in addition to pop favorites. The Public Theater presents the new musical Southern Comfort, the true story of a group of transgender friends living life on their own terms in the back hills of rural Georgia,  directed by Thomas Caruso and based on the film by Kate Davis. Southern Comfort features book and lyrics by Dan Collins, music by Julianne Wick Davis, choreography by Ryan Kasprzak, and was conceived for the stage by Robert DuSold and Thomas Caruso. The new musical will run through Sunday, March 27 in The Public's Anspacher Theater. Check out photos from opening night below!

Atlantic Theater Company just presented their Annual Gala last night, March 7, at The Pierre (2 East 61 Street). Actors' Choice celebrated Atlantic's actors with a fabulous evening of unexpected songs, honoring David Richenthal and the Richenthal Foundation for their long-term support of Atlantic's mission. This year, Atlantic asked a slate of favorite Atlantic actors to choose a song they love and a favorite musician to perform it. Directed by Neil Pepe with musical direction by Matt Gallagher, Actors' Choice was an evening of unexpected songs and celebration. Time flies at the Eugene O'Neill! Today, stars from THE BOOK OF MORMON, including Nic Rouleau (Elder Price), Christopher John O'Neill (Elder Cunningham), and Nikki Renee Daniels (Nabulungi), celebrated five years on Broadway at the top of the Empire State Building. The company 'flipped the switch' to make the world-famous tower lights shine in white and orange for the special occasion. Playwrights Horizons presents the New York premiere production of FAMILIAR, a new play by Obie Award-winner Danai Gurira, directed by Rebecca Taichman. FAMILIAR opened last night, March 3, at Playwrights Horizons for a limited engagement plays through Sunday, March 27.

The world premiere of STRAIGHT, a new play written by Scott Elmegreen and Drew Fornarola and directed by Andy Sandberg (Application Pending), officially opened off-Broadway last night, February 29, and will run through May 8, 2016 at The Acorn Theatre @ Theatre Row (410 W 42nd Street, New York, NY 10036). The new American play ECLIPSED by Danai Gurira just began Broadway previews last night, starring Academy Award winner Lupita Nyong'o, Pascale Armand, Akosua Busia, Zainab Jah and Saycon Sengbloh. ECLIPSED, directed by Liesl Tommy, will open on March 6, 2016 on Broadway at the Golden Theatre (252 W. 45th Street). ECLIPSED marks a historic moment on Broadway: the first time the cast, director, and playwright are composed entirely of female artists, fitting for a production that so stunningly chronicles the experiences of a group of very resilient women. To celebrate, the show hosted some of the industry's other trailblazing and history-making women for the first preview. Signature Theatre presents ANGEL REAPERS, written by Residency Five playwright Martha Clarke and Tony- and Pulitzer Prize-winner Alfred Uhry, directed and choreographed by Ms. Clarke. The production will run through March 20, 2016 with an opening last night, February 22, in The Romulus Linney Courtyard Theatre at The Pershing Square Signature Center (480 West 42nd Street between 9th and 10th Avenues). Chicago, Broadway's longest running American musical, now in its 20th year, just celebrated another milestone at the Ambassador Theatre (219 W. 49th St., NYC). Last night the company gathered to mark the show's 8000th performance on a night that happened to also be the birthday of Barry Weissler, the show's lead producer. Williamstown Theatre Festival's annual Gala was just held at City Winery in New York City (155 Varick Street) last night, February 8, 2016. The evening  included cocktails, dinner, and live auction led by Charity Auctioneer Robbie Gordy of Christie's New York. Hosted by Jessica Hecht and David Hyde Pierce, the evening included special appearances and performances by: star of stage and screen Ana Gasteyer, Telly Leung (Broadway's Allegiance), Lindsay Mendez (Broadway's Wicked), New York's hottest new band Sky-Pony (led by Tony Award-nominated singer/actress Lauren Worsham and musician/writer Kyle Jarrow), and more. FINDING NEVERLAND has found its new leading man! Tony Award nominee Tony Yazbeck (On The Town) just took over the role of Peter Pan creator J.M. Barrie in the smash hit, record-breaking Broadway musical last night, January 26, 2016. The production plays at the Lunt-Fontanne Theatre (205 West 46th Street, between Broadway and 8th Avenues). The longest-running show in Broadway history, the Cameron Mackintosh/The Really Useful Group production of Andrew Lloyd Webber's The Phantom of the Opera, directed by Harold Prince, reached another unprecedented milestone when it celebrated its Twenty-Eighth Anniversary last night, Tuesday, January 26, 2016. Paper Mill Playhouse's world premiere of A BRONX TALE: THE MUSICAL will be co-directed by two-time Oscar winner Robert De Niro and four-time Tony Award winner Jerry Zaks, with choreography by four-time Drama Desk Award nominee Sergio Trujillo. A BRONX TALE: THE MUSICAL features a book by Chazz Palminteri, music by Alan Menken and lyrics by Glenn Slater.
