A current production of OUR TOWN playing at the Barrow Street Theatre has recently become the longest running production in the show's history, surpassing the Broadway's record of 337 performances. After opening February 26th of this year, OUR TOWN received critical acclaim and has remained open to sell-out audiences.

A new technology currently on trial in the West End will allow theatre attendees who do not speak the language used in the production to enjoy and understand the performance. The technology, called AirScript, wirelessly streams the script of the play, in real time, to a device that displays it in whatever language the user chooses, including French, Japanese, Spanish, Italian, Russian, Mandarin, German, and English.

Several New Jersey theatres have faced budget cuts and loss of grants during these tough economic times. While some theatres have been forced to cut back on the number of productions this season, other have used resourcefulness and assistance of their employees in order to push through a difficult season.

The 43-year old BoarsHead theatre held its final performance yesterday, December 20th, with a production written by two of its interns, entitled STILL SMALL VOICES. The interns, Maren Rosenberg and Ashleigh Millett, continued the work on their play after the company was forced to let them go due to budget constraints.

The Hawaii Theatre will present an updated version of the classic rhythmic show, STOMP, from December 22nd through January 3rd. The production is presented by Jam Theatricals and NewSpace Entertainment and Rhythm.

The religious based musical, TWO FROM GALILEE, will play its final four performances at the Wichita Theatre this weekend, from December 18th to December 20th. The production is directed by Joy Schaeffer and choreographed by Bethany Talley.

The Colorado Supreme Court upheld an earlier ruling banning smoking in onstage productions. Colorado has a statewide ban on cigarettes and actors hoped they would be exempt from the rule. Over the past 3 years, several theatre groups have argued the ban infringed on their free speech rights. The statute was upheld be an overwhelming majority, with only one judge voting against lifting the ban. Six judges voted to uphold the ban.

Greater Orlando Actors Theatre announces their second annual Starving Artist New Years Party. The evening will include open mic cabaret, karaoke, other entertainment, previews of GOAT's upcoming production of Jonathan Larson's RENT, food and drink, and a midnight toast.

Houston Ballet presents American at Heart, featuring two ballets that are significant to the history American dance (George Balanchine's Apollo and Jerome Robbins's Fancy Free) and one work inspired by American popular culture and created specifically for an American company (Christopher Bruce's Hush, choreographed for Houston Ballet in 2006). The production will run March 11th through March 21st, 2010.

Unhinged Productions will present a series of readings in January. Entitled the 'Pre-Stonewall Play Readings,' the events will feature staged readings of three sensational plays written before June 28, 1969. The readings will include EDWARD II by Christopher Marlowe, SALOME by Oscar Wilde, and THE CHILDREN'S HOUR by Lillian Hellman.

Aside Productions will present ALTAR BOYZ and A PIECE OF MY HEART in January as their next set of productions. ALTAR BOYZ will be performed January 7th and 9th at 7:00pm and A PIECE OF MY HEART will be performed January 8th at 7:00pm and January 9th at 3:00pm.

Theatre Southwest will present their production of David Lindsey-Abaire's play, WONDER OF THE WORLD, beginning December 31st with a special New Years Gala. The show will run through January 23rd. The cast for the production will include James Reed, Stacy A. Spaeth, Ananka Kohnitz, Cheryl Tanner, Brian Heaton, Jeanette Sebesta, and John Kaiser. The show is directed by David Holloway.

The production of THE SOUND OF MUSIC currently playing at the Hobby Center in Houston has made use of their pit in a way that may surprise audiences. Instead of placing the orchestra in the pit, the Hobby Center has instead chosen to pipe in the music, using the pit area to aid in scene changes and allow some of the more intimate scenes to be played more downstage than a pit would have known.

Michelle Monaghan, who starred opposite Tom Cruise in blockbuster 'Mission: Impossible III,' and 'NCIS: Los Angeles' star Chris O'Donnell will join Screen Actors Guild President Ken Howard to announce the nominees for the 16th Annual Screen Actors Guild Awards, Executive Producer Jeff Margolis announced today.

Tony Award winner Kristin Chenoweth will join mezzo-soprano opera singer Marilyn for the upcoming DAMES AT 'C' concert at Carnegie Hall. The concert series will take place January 22nd at 7:30pm. DAMES AT 'C' is part of Marilyn Horne's THE SONG CONTINUES... series taking place at Carnegie Hall January 19th through January 22nd.

PILLSBURY HOUSE THEATRE is pleased to announce their 2010 Season. This year PILLSBURY HOUSE THEATRE will present three Mainstage productions, two CHICAGO AVENUE PROJECT productions and three LATE NITE presentations.

John Cullum, Colman Domingo and more have been announced for the upcoming production of THE SCOTTSBORO BOYS by the acclaimed Broadway composing team Kander and Ebb. The production will take place at the Vineyard Theatre off-Broadway and begins previews February 12th with an official opening date of March 10th.

Meryl Streep is among the 2009 winners of the New York Film Critic's Circle Award winners. Streep won the award for Best Actress for her performance as Julia Child in the Nora Ephron comedy 'Julie & Julia.'

New York Magazine features an interview with acclaimed Broadway lyricist/composer Stephen Sondheim and five-time Tony Award winner Angela Lansbury. Sondheim and Lansbury have collaborated many times over the years in bringing Sondheim's plays to Broadway. Lansbury has starred in Anyone Can Whistle, the first revival of Gypsy, Sweeney Todd, and is currently starring as Madame Armfeldt in the revival of A Little Night Music.
