Al Smith's Atom Bomb Play ENOLA Set for the side project May 13 - June 15April 26, 2012Mixing fact and fiction, faith and science, theatricality and stark realism, playwright Al Smith explores the legacy of war on youth by having Enola, the 8-year-old daughter of the man who built the plane that dropped the bomb on Hiroshima, walk him through that fateful summer. Rogers Park-based theatre company, the side project, will present the U.S. premiere of Enola, which won the 2006 Sunday Times (U.K.) Playwriting Award, as part of its three-show Spring Repertory, starting May 13.

JEFF Awards Non-Equity Nominations - Full List and Statistics - Theo Ubique Cabaret Theatre Leads with 14 NominationsApril 25, 2012The Jeff Awards today announced 124 nominations in 25 categories for Non-Equity Jeff Awards for productions that opened between April 1, 2011, and March 31, 2012. The Non-Equity Awards honor excellence in Chicago theatres not under a union contract. Jeff Awards judges covered opening nights of 154 productions offered by 71 Non-Equity producing organizations. The judges recommended 64 of those shows, making them eligible for Non-Equity Jeff Award nominations. Thirty-two theatre companies received nominations.
