Joyseekers Theatre brings Gorky's classic Russian play, The Lower Depths, to contemporary American audiences in this brand new adaptation by Australian playwright Tim Redmond. Set against the backdrop of 1930's depression-era New York, Redmond draws startling parallels between pre-revolution Russia and a country quickly losing its grasp on the American Dream. When a stranger arrives in the midst of a ragged bunch of outcasts, spinning tales of hope and redemption, his 'beautiful lies' soon begin to expose some dark and painful truths.

Manhattan Movement & Arts Center presents Manhattan Youth Ballet's 2012 Spring Workshop from March 31-April 1. Performances: Saturday 4pm and 8pm and Sunday at 1:30pm and 5:30pm. On November 4, 2008 Proposition 8 passed in California, amending the state Constitution to ban same-sex marriage. Beck Center for the Arts and Connect to Beck (C2B) are hosting the first annual Bike for Beck tour Saturday, May 19, 2012. Cyclists of all ages are invited to participate. The bike tour begins at 9:00 a.m. at the Beck Center, located at 17801 Detroit Avenue in Lakewood, and continues through the Metroparks. Bike for Beck is followed by an afternoon of arts and entertainment on the Beck Center campus. Proceeds from this fundraising event benefit Beck Center's arts education programs.

The Alabama Shakespeare Festival will roll into its repertory season when William Shakespeare's comedy The Merry Wives of Windsor opens on April 13 followed by Henry VIII on April 19. In addition to the openings of these two Shakespearean works, two comedies The Thirty Nine Steps and Travels My Aunt will reopen for the second half of their runs on April 22. ASF's Extreme Weekends, in which theatre lovers can see all four repertory shows Friday through Sunday are available April 20-22 and 27-29 as well as May 4-6, 11-13 and 18-20.

Opera Idaho welcomes new-to-Boise artists Constantinos Yiannoudes (Horace Tabor) and Rebecca David (Baby Doe)! Co-Artist-in-Residence Michele Detwiler returns to the stage to play Horace's first wife Augusta Tabor, and Tiffany Calàs returns to play Mama McCourt. Baby Doe will be conducted by Sara Jobin (Our Town, 2010) and directed by David Cox (Our Town, 2010).
