Kennedy Center Presents COME FLY AWAY, 4/18-29March 21, 2012The Kennedy Center presents Come Fly Away in the Eisenhower Theater from April 18-29, 2012. Conceived, choreographed, and directed by Tony Award® winner and Kennedy Center Honoree Twyla Tharp (Movin' Out) and by special arrangement with the Frank Sinatra Family and Frank Sinatra Enterprises, Come Fly Away blends the legendary vocals of Frank Sinatra with a live on-stage big band and 14 of the world's finest dancers. The show's score combines classic and newly discovered vocal performances from the Sinatra archives, along with Sinatra's signature arrangements by Nelson Riddle, Billy May and Quincy Jones, among others, and brand new charts, for this fresh innovative musical. Press night will take place on Wednesday, April 18 at 7:30 p.m.
Downtown Urban Theater Festival to Present SAMMY GETS MUGGED!, 3/29March 21, 2012After a debut at the 15th Annual New York International Fringe Festival, The Downtown Urban Theater Festival will present the dramatic stageplay Sammy Gets Mugged! by award-winning writer Dan Heching. The cast includes Broadway star Stephanie Pope Caffey, Fringe Award-winner Patrick Byas (both reprising their roles), and Taylor Myers. The performance will take place on March 29th at the HERE Arts Center.
The MainStreet Theatre Company Presents A WRINKLE IN TIME, 5/5-20March 21, 2012The MainStreet Theatre Company will end its 6th season with an adaptation of Madeleine L'Engles' Newberry Award winning classic A Wrinkle in Time. The book is celebrating its 50th anniversary this year, and The MainStreet Theatre Company was awarded a grant from the National Endowment of the Arts to help support the production. Performances run from May 5th - May 20th at Rancho Cucamonga's Lewis Family Playhouse in the Victoria Gardens Cultural Center. The adaptation is by John Glore, and it will be directed by Robert Castro.
TheaterWorks Adds TRYST and I LOVED I LOST I MADE SPAGHETTIMarch 21, 2012TheaterWorks will present a summer-time World Premiere based on the unforgettable and deliciously entertaining memoir, I loved, I Lost, I Made Spaghetti by Guilia Melucci, adapted for the stage by Jacques Lamarre. TheaterWorks' Interim Artistic Director, Rob Ruggiero directs yet another new work for Hartford audiences in this heartwarming and comedic cook-in, which answers the question, "Is the cure for a broken heart … pasta?" I loved, I Lost, I Made Spaghetti runs June I through July 8, 2012 and is the 4th play of TheaterWorks' 2011-2012 Season (replacing Time Stands Still by David Margulies).

Did David die? Will Louise be able to stop Winston from killing Veronica? If only playwright Rick Jacobs could get past his massive case of writer's block…not to mention the interruptions from his upstairs neighbor Loni, who he is secretly and desperately in love with, and his typical Jewish mother, who constantly criticizes and cleans. As this farce unfolds, we meet the "figments" of Rick's imagination-his fantasy versions of himself, Loni, his mother and more-as well as the characters from his stalled play. Eventually, the people and the "figments" help Rick resolve the issues in his life-on the page and in real life.

Nathan Louis Jackson’s BROKE-OLOGY Comes to KTC, 4/4-22March 21, 2012According to Ennis King, the older brother in Nathan Louis Jackson's Broke-ology that opens for previews at the Kitchen Theatre on April 4th and runs through April 22nd, he has developed a new scientific theory. As Ennis explains to his younger brother Malcolm, "Broke-ology…is a complex new science that examines two things. One, being broke. Two, staying alive despite your brokenness." Ennis and Malcolm are experts in broke-ology, and their situation is complicated by their aging father William's quickening decline. Poverty, the American dream and the ties that bind a family together are brought into focus in this new play.

Photo Flash: Downtown Urban Theater Festival OpensMarch 21, 2012Downtown Urban Theater Festival (DUTF) opened on Wednesday, March 14, at HERE Mainstage with an exciting night of theatre featuring DEATH BOOGIE, written by Darian Dauchan. This Hip Hop poetry musical featured the poetic artistry of Dauchan and followed the fictional story of Victor Spartan, a blue collar worker who lives a comatose lifestyle by day and at night, hears the poetic sounds of revolution. It was directed by Jennifer McGrath with music accompaniment by The Mighty Third Rail and illustrations by David Ayllon.
Alan Gilbert and the New York Philharmonic Release New Album of Magnus Lindberg and Prokofiev March 21, 2012The fifth release from the Alan Gilbert and the New York Philharmonic 2011-12 Season digital recording series is now available for download from iTunes and other major online music providers. This latest recording - led by Music Director Alan Gilbert - features Feria, a 17-minute orchestral essay completed in 1997 by The Marie-Josee Kravis Composer-in-Residence Magnus Lindberg, alongside Prokofiev's Symphony No. 5.
