Burning Coal announces the Uta Hagen-based Scene Study Class. Artistic Director Jerome Davis will conduct an 8-week acting class based on the principles found in Uta Hagen's book Respect for Acting. Davis studied with Ms. Hagen in New York City for seven years. The class will be held at Burning Coal Theatre Company's Murphey School, 224 Polk Street, Raleigh. The 11th Annual Independent Music Awards have just announced their 2012 nominees and Amy Correia is one of a handful of songwriters to garner three nominations: 'Singer-Songwriter Folk Album' -- Your Go Your Way, 'Love Song' -- Love Changes Everything, and 'Story Song' -- Took Him Away. While Keith Richards, Tom Waits, Kathleen Brennan, Suzanne Vega, Ozzy Osbourne are just some of the jury members for the official IMA awards this year, there is also a popular vote that fans can cast.

The Canadian Opera Company's 2011/2012 season closes with the company premiere of George Frideric Handel's Semele in a production directed by famed Chinese visual and performance artist Zhang Huan. Joining Mr. Zhang to present Handel's sparkling and seductive opera about the pitfalls of love affairs between gods and mortals is Italian Baroque opera specialist Rinaldo Alessandrini, who leads the COC Orchestra and Chorus. Sung in English with English SURTITLES™, Semele runs for eight performances at the Four Seasons Centre for the Performing Arts on May 9, 11, 13, 16, 19, 22, 24 and 26, 2012.

The Whidbey Island Center for the Arts F2D2 Series presents "The Earth Portal," Thursday, March 29, 2012, at 7:00, 7:45, and 8:30 pm, in Zech Hall. The Whidbey GeoDome Project is offering a live, interactive preview of its upcoming "The Earth Portal" exhibit at the 50th anniversary celebration of the 1962 Seattle World's Fair. "The Earth Portal," an inflatable immersive visualization environment, will be featured at the Seattle Center for six months beginning on Earth Day, April 21, 2012. You are invited to sample the GeoDome experience, meet our Whidbey team, and learn how this technology is poised to transform both art and science education. Potential uses of the GeoDome on Whidbey will also be explored.

This week The B Street Theatre School Tour production of Fantasy Festival XXVI hits the road. This is the 26th year that elementary and middle schools students throughout northern California have submitted original plays to B Street's annual playwriting contest for young people. Out of over 150 plays submitted this year, just 5 have been selected for the tour. The resulting combined show of these 5 winning plays will be performed at 153 assemblies in over 108 schools in northern California between March 19 and June 8, 2012.
