Totem Pole Playhouse received a $1 million pledge at its Capital Campaign kick off celebration on April 22 at Hauser Estate Winery in Biglerville. The donor, Charles Q. Smith, is a 60 year Totem Pole season ticket holder and former board member. The $2.5 million dollar Capital Campaign will support upgrades to the 40 year old theatre and one million of the campaign has been earmarked for the existing endowment.

Forty-eight years after the 1962 Seattle World's Fair, planning for the 50th anniversary celebration, The Next Fifty Seattle 2012, begins with a virtual launch and new website www.thenextfifty.org. In honor of the launch the Space Needle will turn on the legacy beam and the Pacific Science Center will up light the historic arches in red, yellow and green, the colors of The Next Fifty. Both the Space Needle and Pacific Science Center are iconic community assets, designed and built for the 1962 World's Fair.

The Orange County Performing Arts Center upgraded its Sennheiser audio system for the hearing impaired in Segerstrom Hall. The new system is radio frequency-based, replacing the original infrared system which will improve audio quality and availability throughout the hall with no dead spaces as could occur with infrared signals. Patrons with hearing impairment can take advantage of this free service at any performance. A lightweight traditional headset or earbuds plug into the receiver, which is the size of a cell phone and fits easily into a shirt or coat pocket. The new system will also be available for docent-led tours.

BRT Announces $5k StarQuest Winner Justin Ballasy

Bristol Riverside Theatre announces the winners of StarQuest 2010, a search for local amateur talent culminating in a $5,000 cash prize. The grand prize winner was 14 year old Justin Ballasy from Warrington performing a self-choreographed tap dance to Back to the Ground. 16 year old Tyler Scheuer from Newtown was the first runner-up for his act balancing various objects on his nose and chin. Second runner-up Angela Antolino, a 26 year old Levittown resident, sang Vissi d'Arte from Tosca. An honorable mention category was added to recognize the talents of Five Star from Levittown who performed an original dance. Shannon DiMuzio from Croydon captured the Audience Favorite Award for her performance of Second Chance by Shinedown.

World premiere readings from Kansas City's teen playwrights will be showcased during the Annual Young Playwrights' Festival at 7 p.m. April 28 and 29, and at 10 a.m. April 29 at the Coterie Theatre, level 1, Crown Center Shops. Professional actors, directors and designers work to present a collection of ten staged readings, plays and monologues from teen members of the Coterie's Young Playwrights' Roundtable.
