Guggenheim Appoints WEISS as Curator, Panza Collection

Richard Armstrong, Director, Solomon R. Guggenheim Foundation and Museum, announced the appointment of Jeffrey Weiss to the newly established position of Curator, Panza Collection. The creation of the position is part of the Panza Collection Conservation Initiative (PCCI), which was announced last month along with a major grant from The Andrew W. Mellon Foundation of $1.23 million to support the first phase of this project. This phase will undertake a comprehensive evaluation of the Minimalist, Post-Minimalist, and Conceptual artworks, from the 1960s through the 1970s, in the Guggenheim's Panza Collection.

The Strand Theater announces its second annual Friends and Neighbors Festival: Works by Women, sponsored by the Maryland State Arts Council. The Friends and Neighbors Festival, includes a diverse group of up-and-coming female playwrights. Over four weeks in June, a new work will be featured at the Strand each weekend. The Columbus Symphony Orchestra (CSO) is accepting volunteer applications for the 2010 Picnic With the Pops and Popcorn Pops. All concerts are evening performances and held on the lawn of Chemical Abstracts Service (2540 Olentangy River Rd.). The first show is Spectrum in a Tribute to Motwon and R&B on Saturday, June 19. Additional concert include Patriotic Pops on July 3 and 50's Dance Party: A Tribute to Buddy Holly, The Big Bopper and Ritchie Valens on July 17. St. Petersburg Opera's Emerging Artists, the young singers who understudy the principal roles in the opera productions, will present two performances, on May 28 and May 29, 2010. The first performance, an abbreviated version of the opera 'Carmen,' will feature many of the most famous musical numbers from the opera and will use the set, costumes, and staging from the mainstage performances. Beginning June 11, the Department of Concerts and Lectures and the University of Minnesota Summer Session Office will host 24 free, outdoor concerts that showcase local talent and offer a variety of eclectic music from various cultures and genres. All concerts will be played on the Northrop Plaza from noon to 1:00 pm, with the exception of five evening shows. The evening concerts are an exciting new addition this summer and will be hosted on the plaza from 7:00 to 8:00 pm with bands The Alarmists, Maria Isa, Innocent, Charanga Tropical, and Alison Scott. KS Rudolf Mazzola Passes Away At Age 70

70 year old KS Rudolf Mazzola dies yesterday, Tuesday, 18 May 2010, in Vienna. Born in Switzerland, studied singing in Basel. He was a fellow at the Opera Studio in Zurich, first a commitment was given to St. Gallen and 1969 in Basel. In 1975 he was engaged as a soloist of the Vienna Volksoper, until he was hired in 1977 at the Vienna State Opera, where he was a longtime member of the company and the works. In addition, he has performed regularly at the Salzburg Festival, Munich, Paris, Zurich and Barcelona. In 1988 he was appointed to the Austrian Chamber singers.
