Coyote StageWorks, the Coachella Valley-based award-winning Actors' Equity professional theater company, will open its Tenth Anniversary season with a production of "The Understudy" by Theresa Rebeck, who created the hit television series "SMASH." The show, a hilarious comedy about life in the theater, will star Alex Best, Robin McAlpine, and David Youse and run for nine performances from November 2 - 11, 2018. "The Understudy" is a hilarious exploration of the existential vagaries of show business and life.

The McCallum Theatre will kick off its fourth decade with the Seventh Annual McCallum Theatre Family Fun Day set for Sunday, October 21, 2018 featuring a performance of the critically-acclaimed Erth's Prehistoric Aquarium Adventure.  Proceeds from this special annual event will support theatre operations including the McCallum Theatre Education, the Theatre's award-winning arts education program that provides arts training to 40,000 students and educators annually, serving 70% of Coachella Valley classrooms.  The Co-Presenting Sponsors of Family Fun Day are The City of Palm Desert and The H.N. and Frances C. Berger Foundation.

The McCallum Theatre announced today that one of entertainment's most beloved performers, multiple Grammy Award-winning country music superstar and lifestyle entrepreneur Trisha Yearwood , will headline its Annual Fundraising Gala to be held on Wednesday, December 5. The always eagerly-awaited annual event will honor leaders of one of the Valley's most philanthropic organizations, The H.N. and Frances C. Berger Foundation Board of Directors and President, Ronald M. Auen for their longstanding commitment to enhancing the quality of life in the Coachella Valley.

The International Opera Institute presents a celebration of Streisand and Sinatra in The Concert That Never Was' At The Indian Wells Performing Arts Center on November 10 at 7:30 pm. "The Concert That Never Was" is a concert between Frank Sinatra and Barbra Streisand that was planned but never took place. This stellar evening will be performed by Opera and Jazz Diva Rose Kingsley, Actor and Entertainer Richard Shelton and The Bob Corwin Trio. Producers notes say 'We welcome you to spend a magical evening of Sinatra & Streisand songs along with stories that have never been told -- ann experience that you will long remember!'

Aida Cuevas presents a mariachi spectacle in a tribute to her friend and mentor, Juan Gabriel, on Tuesday, October 2, at 8:00pm. Featuring Aida's Mexico City based mariachi band, Mariachi Juvenil Tecalitlan, it will be an unforgettable concert featuring two Mexican icons, two masters of the mariachi genre, two lifelong friends and musical partners. Aida Cuevas has created one of the most important careers in traditional Mexican music. With a 42 year career and 39 album releases to her credit, Aida, dubbed "The Queen of Mariachi," is an esteemed figure in Mexico, beloved for her unswerving devotion to traditional mariachi music and for her mastery of its demanding vocal forms. Aida's career has been honored with a Grammy® award, a Latin Grammy® award, and seven Latin Grammy® nominations in the "Best Mariachi/Ranchero Album" category.

Coyote StageWorks, the Coachella Valley based award-winning Actors' Equity professional theater company, announced that its Tenth Anniversary season will include productions of three highly entertaining stage plays, presented at the Palm Springs Art Museum's Annenberg Theater, an increase of the popular free Play Dates Reader's Series, and the debut of the Palm Springs Young Playwright's Festival.

The Palm Springs Gay Men's Chorus (PSGMC) and Palm Canyon Theatre (PCT) join theatrical forces on Sunday, September 30 at 7:00 p.m. as they bring an enchanted evening of 'The Best Of Rodgers And Hammerstein' to the desert to benefit both organizations. This cast for includes two-time Emmy® nominated actress and singer Bobbie Eakes along with the vocal talents of desert favorites Theresa Jewett, Charles Herrera, and Keisha D, who will perform numbers written and composed by Richard Rodgers and Oscar Hammerstein. Members of the Palm Canyon Theatre Company will sing selections from Oklahoma!  the Palm Springs Gay Men's Chorus will present  'There is Nothing Like a Dame' from South Pacific, 'We Kiss in a Shadow' from The King and I and 'Boys and Girls Like You and Me' from State Fair.  The concert will be followed by a reception under the stars.

The Festival of Arts and Pageant of the Masters will present its annual Celebrity Benefit on August 25th starring Grammy-winner Steve Tyrell and hosted by actress Sarah Drew. Guest will be treated to an evening of fine art and a red-carpet brimming with the stars of film and television. But there is no doubt the real star of the evening will be a special performance of this summer's popular Pageant of the Masters, 'Under the Sun.' Proceeds will support the Building Fund for renovations of the Festival of Arts and Pageant of the Masters' facility.

The world-famous Pageant Of The Masters, a theatrical celebration of great art recreated in tableaux vivants, and celebrating its' 85th anniversary of 'living pictures' as part of Laguna Beach's Festival of Arts, is in full bloom in Laguna Beach, with performances nightly through September 1. This season's theme is 'Under The Sun'. The Pageant began as a publicity gimmick for the second Festival of Arts in 1933 but quickly grew into a summer tradition that now attracts over 140,000 patrons every summer. At its helm is Pageant producer-director Diane Challis Davy, once again summoning her creative energies and inspiring her talented team of theatrical artists as they breathe life into this one-of-a-kind entertainment that presents spectacular stage illusions with original, live music by the Pageant orchestra and informative and engaging narration also performed live each night under the stars. 

One of the most prolific dance artists of our time, Billboard® Dance Chart Topper Debby Holiday along with her 4-piece band known for her mega-hits 'DIVE', 'I LIKE YOU', 'BRING IT ON', 'PIECE OF MY LOVE' and 'SURRENDER' will headline Halloween Palm Springs Wednesday, October 31 from 5:00-10: 00 p.m. Bringing the beat to the street will be internationally re-known Phil B. who is undoubtedly one of the top DJ's on the U.S. and Europe Circuit today and was recently honored with DJ of the Year at the 10th Annual Just Circuit Awards!

Outlandish, a live performance series that debuted in Palm Springs last fall, returns to the Palm Springs Cultural Center with an expanded lineup.  Produced by Logo TV Founder Matt Farber and the Palm Springs Cultural Center, the series will feature six iconic acts known in the LGBT community, each of whose appeal has crossed over to a mainstream audience.  Outlandish kicks off on Friday, October 26, 2018, when John Waters performs his one-man show 'This Filthy World-2018!' a 'vaudeville' act that celebrates the film career and obsessive tastes of 'The Pope of Trash.'

The Producers of the hit LGBTQ play ELECTRICITY are happy to announce that August marks the production's one-year anniversary in Palm Springs, CA!  Outside of the legendary FABULOUS PALM SPRINGS FOLLIES, few plays have run as long in this world-famous international resort destination.  The critically-acclaimed production of ELECTRICITY, a new American play written and starring TERRY RAY  ("My Sister is So Gay") and co-starring MEL ENGLAND ("Best Day Ever"), moved to Palm Springs after a run in Los Angeles, and has also played in cities across the country.

Leading into its 20th Season, the Palm Springs Gay Men's Chorus (PSGMC) will be holding open call auditions August 28 at 7:00 p.m. at the Mizell Senior Center, 480 South Sunrise Way in Palm Springs. This special evening of camaraderie will also be an opportunity to volunteer and get involved with one of the chorus' many committees. Interested singers can also attend open rehearsals on August 14 and 21 at 7:00 p.m. to experience what it is like to perform with the chorus and meet its members. 

The Encore Theatre District will open its 2018-19 Season with an exciting new adaptation of The Wizard Of Oz, running August 31 through September at The Palm Springs High School Blackbox Theatre.

The Broadway League has announced that the 10th annual Jimmy® Awards ceremony will be streamed Live in its entirety on Facebook. The Jimmy Awards will take place on Monday, June 25th at 7:30PM ET at the Minskoff Theatre, 200 West 45th Street in Manhattan, and will be hosted by Tony Award Winner® Laura Benanti. LUCIE ARNAZ AWARD WINNERS Garrett Hoy from Rancho Mirage High School and Marisa Moenho of Murrieta Valley High School will be among the eight talented young performers from across the nation competing for the honor of Best High School Actor and Actress in America. 

The south of the border hotties, Chico's Angels, will make their Palm Springs debut with their hour-long variety show VIVA LAS CHICAS!: Chico's Angels Variety Hour. The show stars the heavenly trio Kay Sedia, Frieda Laye, Chita Parol & Bossman. VIVA LAS CHICAS opens tonight, June 12, and runs for three very special performances only (through the 14th) at Oscar's Cafe & Bar in downtown Palm Springs. VIVA LAS CHICAS is a flashback and flashforward variety show, featuring the Angels performing sketches and beloved musical numbers. 'The combined talents of these three Angels will capture the audience and take them on a tour across the border they will not soon forget!' I had the chance to chat with the ANGELS on their road trip to the desert as they were winging their way toward tonight's important desert debut. Here are a few excerpts from the conversation:

Dezart Performs will kick of it's eleventh award winning theatrical season this fall and, due to critical and box office successes, will expand its offerings to four MainStage shows (instead of three) and, for the first time, will offer "all-reserved" seating. Artistic director Michael Shaw recently announced the non-profit theatre company's 2018/19 Season, which begins November 9. The Season will include 'Church And State', 'Perfect Arrangement', 'White Guy On A Bus' and 'Maytag Virgin'.

On May 20, The Camelot Theatre in Palm Springs previewed an incredible new documentary, 'The Show Goes On', about the life and career of Broadway, Film and Television Icon Kaye Ballard to a 'more than full house'. In fact, two theatres were opened for the screening since demand far exceeded the number of seats in the main house. With her typically self-deprecating humor, Ms. Ballard proclaims herself 'The Greatest Star You Hardly Knew', and the beautifully constructed 90 minute film details her extraordinary accomplishments from Broadway's 'Carnival', 'The Golden Apple', 'Molly' and 'Pirates Of Penzance' to her stellar nightclub, film and television career including 'The Doris Day Show' and the beloved and  iconic 'Mother's In Law' with Eve Arden. It highlights the extraordinary talents of Ms. Ballard and doesn't shy away from the disappointments and challenges along the way, featuring interviews with Woody Allen, Carol Channing, Hal Prince, Carol Burnett, Michael Feinstein, Joy Behar and more. Hal Prince boldly states 'if Kaye Ballard had been cast as the mother in 'Gypsy,' 'she would have made history.' I had the chance to visit with Ms. Ballard at her home on 'Kaye Ballard Lane' in Rancho Mirage (the home formerly owned by her friend and TV director, Desi Arnaz) to talk about the film and more. On Sunday, May 20, at The Annenberg Theatre in Palm Springs Marisa Moehno of Murrietta Valley High School and Garrett Hoy of Musical Theatre University were named the LucieA Award Winners for Outstanding Actress and Actor, respectively, at the Lucie Arnaz Awards for High School Musical Theatre. The Lucie Arnaz Awards were created and founded by David Green, who's Broadway alumni include Tony nominees Stephanie Block, Susan Egan, Lindsay Mendez and Matthew Morrison, to name a few, in collaboration with Ms Arnaz in an effort to support, sustain, grow and inspire quality performing arts experiences for young people in The Inland Empire.
