The dream cast of Renée Fleming as the Marschallin and El?na Garan?a as Octavian star in Strauss's grandest opera, Der Rosenkavalier, which opened at the Met on April 13th. In his new production, Robert Carsen, the director behind the Met's recent Falstaff, places the action at the end of the Habsburg Empire, underscoring the opera's subtext of class and conflict against a rich backdrop of gilt and red damask, in a staging that also stars Günther Groissböck as Baron Ochs. Sebastian Weigle conducts the sparklingly perfect score.

On Friday, April  28, 2017 at 7:30 pm Concerts at Saint Thomas presents the Copenhagen Royal Chapel Choir. As one of Europe's leading choirs, this fine choir has delighted listeners since 1924 with its interpretation of the works of major composers of the renaissance and baroque eras, as well as 20th century choral music for boys' and men's voices. Since 1959, the choir has been resident at Copenhagen Cathedral and as part of its duties performs at state occasions and during royal visits abroad.

Roberto Alagna adds a new role to his extensive Met repertory with his first performances as the title character in Cyrano de Bergerac, opening May 2. Marco Armiliato conducts the revival of Alfano's rarely performed opera, which will be staged for four performances through Saturday, May 13. American soprano Jennifer Rowley makes her role debut as Roxane, Cyrano's secret love, in a cast that also features Atalla Ayan as Christian and Juan Jesús Rodríguez as de Guiche.

Hear the mighty, one-of-a-kind William J. Gillespie organ in all its acoustic wonder, when outstanding virtuoso Monte Maxwell performs an eclectic program of organ favorites including something for everyone during Pacific Symphony's final “Pedals and Pipes” concert this season. The renowned organist—who plays for the U.S. Naval Academy's Chapel and has performed for diplomats and national leaders from around the world—travels to Orange County for this showcase of the organ's stunning palette of sounds, often adding his own twist to classic arrangements. Art Miami, the leading producer of international contemporary and modern art fairs, will present the third edition ofArt New York and the second edition of CONTEXT New York at Pier 94, opening Wednesday, May 3, and continuing through Sunday, May 7, to kick off New York Art Week.

American Composers Orchestra (ACO), under the leadership of Artistic Director Derek Bermel and Music Director George Manahan, continues its 40th Anniversary Season on Tuesday, May 23, 2017 at 8pmwith ACO Parables at Symphony Space's Peter Jay Sharp Theatre. The concert inaugurates a new partnership between American Composers Orchestra and Symphony Space, and is part of Symphony Space's FUSE Project. ACO Parables, led by guest conductor Rossen Milanov, explores music's incredible ability to tell stories and weave tales.

On May 4, 2017, LA Opera will present soprano Anna Netrebko and tenor Yusif Eyvazov in concert with the LA Opera Orchestra, conducted by Jader Bignamini. The concert will take place at 7:30pm at the Dorothy Chandler Pavilion, located at 135 North Grand Avenue, Los Angeles, CA 90012.

Season Two of SF Opera Lab comes to a close this month with two concerts exploring a rich tapestry of sound worlds within the intimate and state-of-the-art Taube Atrium Theater at San Francisco Opera's Diane B. Wilsey Center for Opera. The “remarkable vocal octet” (New York Times) Roomful of Teeth makes their San Francisco debut onApril 23 in a sold-out “Shaw & Shakespeare” program co-presented with San Francisco Performances' PIVOT series. On April 27, musicians of the San Francisco Opera Orchestra curate and perform an evening of ChamberWORKS featuring music by William Presser, John Mackey, Anton Arensky and Luigi Boccherini.

Dancemakers' Curator Amelia Ehrhardt is pleased to announce programming for the  company's first-ever MiniFest, two weeks of contemporary dance works and outreach events that are enticing, curious and well-crafted, from June 13 to 24 at three different venues: Dancemakers Centre for Creation in the Distillery District, the Winchester St. Theatre and Artscape Gibraltar Point.

Author Patricia McKissack, who produced children's books about black history with her husband, passed away on April 7th at the age of 72.  According to her son, Fredrick L. McKissack Jr., the cause was cardiorespiratory arrest.

NEW YORK, NY - The Quin, located at 57th Street and Sixth Avenue, welcomes the inspiring Dutch photographer Anne Barlinckhoff on April 20th for the launch of her solo exhibition 'Strength Africa,' co-curated by DK Johnston and Hyland Mather. Barlinckhoff displays both a remarkable eye for detail and the ability to build trust with her subjects, attributes that have already earned the young artist an avid following worldwide. The exhibition, on view in public spaces within the Quin through May, highlights large works selected from the artist's recent travels through West Africa. Strength Africa focuses on intimate portraits that have become a hallmark of her work.

The closing concert of the season on Thursday, May 11, at 8:00PM at Alice Tully Hall will be featuring two of Rossini's famous overtures, The Barber of Seville and William Tell; Clementi's Symphony No. 4; Paganini's 'La Campanella' from Concerto No. 2and Nardini's Violin Concerto in e minor with violinist Krista Bennion Feeney. Italian music of the Classical Era continued a long tradition of virtuosity in stringed instruments. By the beginning of the 19th century, Italian violins, violinist-composers and the violin repertoire had advanced to levels of flamboyance unrivaled anywhere else in Europe. Muzio Clementi's rarely heard symphony features virtuoso string passages unlike those of his contemporaries. Rossini's ebullient overtures complement the sentimental NardiniViolin Concerto in e minor and the fiery Paganini La Campanella.  This concert will be conducted by Thomas Crawford.

Two of Miami's leading cultural institutions, the Pérez Art Museum Miami (PAMM) and Florida Grand Opera (FGO), are collaborating on a special event, pairing music and art, on April 27, 2017 at 7 pm.

The Cleveland Orchestra and Music Director Franz Welser-Möst have announced details of their latest DVD release, a 5-DVD Box Set of previously issued recordings: Bruckner Symphonies Nos. 4, 5, 7, 8, and 9 recorded live at Severance Hall and Austria's Musikverein and Abbey of Saint Florian from 2006 to 2012.

The Los Angeles Master Chorale's High School Choir Festival concert will reach a bigger audience than ever before this month with its first online stream that can be viewed for free. The stream will be made available at lamasterchorale.org on Friday, April 28, a week after the 28th Annual High School Choir Festival concert that takes place Friday, April 21 at Walt Disney Concert Hall.
