Yesterday brought an in-depth first look at the upcoming movie A Wrinkle in Time, based on the beloved Newbery winning novel by Madeleine L'Engle. The movie is directed by Ava DuVernay (Selma, 13th). The movie will hit theaters March 9, 2018. The story centers around Meg (played by newcomer Storm Reid), a girl brave enough to go on an intergallactic journey in a desperate search to find her father (Chris Pine). She's joined by her friend Calvin (Levi Miller) and brother Charles Wallace (Deric McCabe). The trio are sent on their way by three immortal, angelic-like beings, Mrs. Whatsit (Reese Witherspoon), Mrs. Who (Mindy Kaling), and Mrs. Which (Oprah Winfrey).

Winter is coming to Westeros at last, which means trouble is on the horizon if HBO doesn't find a new series to replace the widely popular Game of Thrones. Game of Thrones begins its seventh season this Sunday, July 16th, and will conclude with its eighth season. HBO is looking to find new shows to produce, and one of the series it has just optioned is WHO FEAR DEATH, based on the book by sci-fi/fantasy author Nnedi Okorafor. The book has received accolades such as being a Nebula Award Nominee for Best Novel (2010), Locus Award Nominee for Best Fantasy Novel (2011), World Fantasy Award for Best Novel (2011), and was chosen by readers to be a Goodreads Choice Award Nominee for Fantasy (2010).

In 2015, J.K. Rowling began publishing illustrated editions of her best selling Harry Potter series. The third book in the line will come out October 3, 2017. A month later, on November 7, an illustrated edition of FANTASTIC BEASTS AND WHERE TO FIND THEM will publish. Yesterday, the cover was revealed for both the UK (Bloomsbury) and US (Scholastic) editions of the book. Both will be illustrated by illustrated by Olivia Lomenech Gill.

A few months ago, BroadwayWorld helped spread the news about the fact that best selling author Philip Pullman had finished writing The Book of Dust, which fans of His Dark Materials have been anticipating for twelve years. We now have a title for book one, a summary, AND a cover!!! The book will debut on October 19th, 2017 in both the US and the UK---twenty years after the release of NORTHERN LIGHTS (THE GOLDEN COMPASS in the USA).

This book is so bad-ass. I said that when I was only 80 pages in and everything was going wrong and I was describing the book to a co-worker. I still say that now after finishing!

Celebrate July 4th With These Great Books!

The cover has been revealed for DREAD NATION by Justina Ireland, an alternative-history adventure full of undead Confederate and Union soldiers reminiscent of Pride and Prejudice and Zombies. 

Growing up, Philip Pullman's His Dark Materials was one of my all-time favorite series, surpassed only by The Chronicles of Narnia by C.S. Lewis. I read both series again and again. The books shattered and broke me, but also filled my heart and took me away on dangerous, captivating adventures.

Yesterday, @johngreen, the author of several runaway YA hits such as #TheFaultInOurStars, announced that he will be publishing a brand-new book this fall. It's his first published book since #TFIOS in 2012!

The cover has been revealed for TEMPESTS AND SLAUGHTER by Tamora Pierce. It is the long-awaited first book in The Numair Chronicles which Tortall fans have been clamoring for since meeting Numair Salmalín in the early 1990s. Numair was featured in Pierce's highly-lauded Song of the Lioness quartet and was a major character in her The Immortals quartet.
