BWW Review: ONE SONG AWAY by Molli MoranOctober 25, 2017ONE SONG AWAY is lighthearted and didn't have a lot of the dark, depressing subject matter I read more of in contemporary, which can be nice and relaxing when you just want to read and not think too hard! It also didn't overdose on drama, which I always appreciate in contemporary fiction. If you're looking for a straightforward contemporary romance with a focus on family and growing up amid life-altering decisions, ONE SONG AWAY might be just what you're looking for.
BWW Review: FOREST OF A THOUSAND LANTERNS by Julie C. DaoOctober 12, 2017FOREST OF A THOUSAND LANTERNS has been one of my most-anticipated books of 2017. I'm happy to tell you that Julie C. Dao's debut novel doesn't disappoint! If you're looking for a darker fantasy, one with a character likelier to become a villain than a hero, look no further
BWW Cover Reveal: THESE REBEL WAVES by Sara RaaschOctober 10, 2017Sara Raasch, author of the New York Times Best Selling series Snow Like Ashes, has just revealed the cover for the first book in her brand-new series Stream Raiders, entitled THESE REBEL WAVES.
BWW Review: WHEN TINKER MET BELL by Alethea KontisOctober 9, 2017Bellamy and Tinker are two unlikely friends. Bell is a fairy, and everyone is always drawn to her. They want to touch her and get some of her magical dust to improve their life a little bit. Tinker is the first person who didn't want anything from her. He's a goblin, and goblins are allergic to fairies, so he literally can't touch her without breaking out into hives. Bell wanted a friend who wanted her, not her magic, and Tinker wanted a friend who didn't think he was weird or odd. The two became instant friends, and now, those feelings are morphing into something more. But how can you ever have a relationship with someone you can't even touch?
BWW Review: WARCROSS by Marie LuSeptember 21, 2017WARCROSS by Marie Lu was the first book to give me a book hangover in 2017. I read an advance copy at the tail end of March, only a fourth of the way into the year, and I was seriously up until after 1 a.m. two worknights in a row devouring this book. IT WAS THAT GOOD. I couldn't put it down!!! I read until my eyes drooped, then woke up in the morning, read some more, crammed some more reading into my lunch break, and stayed up again the next night until I'd finishe
BWW Review: UPROOTED by Naomi NovikSeptember 15, 2017Some books have the instant feel of a classic. UPROOTED by Naomi Novik is one of them. In many ways--some small, some large--this novel reminded me of beloved fantasy staples such as HOWL'S MOVING CASTLE by Diana Wynne Jones and The Immortals Quartet AKA the Daine books by Tamora Pierce. It's not a direct retelling of any one tale, but it's been influenced by several pieces of lore and gives nods to many others. To me, it mostly closely resembles a Beauty and the Beast tale, and yet, it's not any sort of retelling. It's also reminiscent of medieval lore where dragons drag girls off as village sacrifices, and yet, that's not quite right either. UPROOTED is wholly original, but will suit the tastes of fairy tale lovers everywhere.
BWW Review: GIRLS MADE OF SNOW AND GLASS by Melissa BashardoustSeptember 7, 2017GIRLS MADE OF SNOW AND GLASS, Melissa Bashardoust's debut novel, came out this past week, and it is wonderful. It's very different from many tales out there in that readers are treated to both the stepmother's POV and the stepdaughter's POV--albeit when both are teenagers. So one tale is told in flashbacks and the other as it is taking place. The story is reminiscent of Snow White, and it has been comped as 'Frozen meets The Bloody Chamber
BWW Interview: Holly Schindler, author of SPARKSeptember 6, 2017The first thing that drew me to SPARK was the theatre influence. What are some of your favorite stage plays and/or musicals?
You don't have to live in the heart of New York City to love the theater, do you? I'm a lifelong resident of Springfield, Missouri, which has a fairly long history of producing actors—Brad Pitt, John Goodman, Kathleen Turner, Tess Harper have all lived here. There's definitely something in the air!
Springfield's also home to several vintage theaters—I grew up going to productions inside them. I referenced a few in SPARK (The Fantasticks), as well as a few Shakespeare works (especially Romeo and Juliet). But I also wanted to show my readers what was in my mind's eye as I created the Avery theater. My local color video takes you on a tour:

BWW Review: NOT IN THE SCRIPT by Amy FinneganAugust 31, 2017If Emma Watson was to star in a Freeform (Formerly ABC Family) TV series after growing up making movies, I would very much expect her life to be similar to what Emma Taylor goes through in NOT IN THE SCRIPT by Amy Finnegan.
