Beau Higgins - Page 84

Beau Higgins Currently spending his time between New York and Florida, Beau was born to a theatrical family in Brooklyn. He studied drama at the Lee Strasberg Theater Institute and at HB Studios. He studied theater singing with Julia Sperratore and Helen Gallagher. Beau later taught drama at the Lincoln Center Square for the Arts. It was at this time Beau began working with the Theater Development Fund and helped found New York's famed HALF PRICE TICKET BOOTH. Early in his career, Beau was screen tested and contracted for Warner Brothers. He co-hosted, an early cable variety series on Manhattan's Teleprompter channel. At this time he directed the Johnny Specca musical, SEX IS..? at the Lincoln Center Library Theater. Beau has performed Off-Broadway in FAT FELL DOWN, The Comic Strip Theater's LITTLE LULU AND THE INVISIBLE INK and WILL THE REAL ZOOPERMAN PLEASE STAND UP. Around the country he has delighted audiences with his performances in ANYTHING GOES, THE APPLE TREE, GUYS & DOLLS, and HELLZAPOPPIN! He sang for New York audiences at such cabarets as The Duplex and Upstairs at the Downstairs. He has had numerous television appearances but is most proud to have been a winning contestant on the game shows JACKPOT and THE $20,000 PYRAMID.

Playwright James Sherman, author of Beau Jest and member of the Victory Gardens Playwrights Ensemble, presents this workshop to explore the building blocks for creating a play. Through the use of lectures and demonstrations, Sherman examines the process of play writing. Examples of classic and contemporary plays will be viewed, in-class exercises will be utilized, and Sherman will be available to discuss his decades long career in the theatre and the life of a playwright. (Note: James Sherman will also be holding a special talk-back after the performances of Beau Jest on Thursday February 25th and Friday February 26th.)

When her parents, Miriam and Abe, don't approve of her choice of boyfriend because he is a gentile she begrudgingly hires an out-of-work actor, Bob, to portray their idea of an ideal mate - Dr. David Steinberg! The twist comes when it is revealed to Sarah that he isn't Jewish as she had assumed. But it's okay, he's toured with 'Fiddler on the Roof' and is sure he can pull it off. Hilarity ensues in this charming comedy as the the two try to keep the charade going.

New Theatre Partners With The Humanity Project To Aid Desperate Haitians

New Theatre of Coral Gables will raise funds throughout the run of its world premiere play, The Hour of the Tiger, to aid Haiti earthquake relief efforts. Audience donations will be requested by the actors following each performance. The donations will be collected through New Theatre's partner in this effort, the Humanity Project, a South Florida-based 501c3 nonprofit group. The Humanity Project will ensure that every dollar is carefully accounted for and turned over to the Red Cross, Doctors Without Borders or the Salvation Army - and that all money is dedicated solely to humanitarian relief for Haitians suffering in the earthquake's terrible aftermath.
