The Adrienne Arsht Center for the Performing Arts of Miami-Dade County proudly announced the special engagement of BABALU, a loving tribute celebrating the musical legacy of Desi Arnaz. Created, directed, and hosted by Lucie Arnaz, BABALU's engagement at the Adrienne Arsht Center will feature multiple Tony Award-nominee and Miami native Raúl Esparza, Broadway's Tony-nominated diva of dance Valarie Pettiford and in a rare, special guest appearance, Desi Arnaz, Jr. playing percussion on his father's classic hits.

This show does things that your traditional musical does not do. That is where I begin to be perplexed. SPRING AWAKENING has what we might term traditional Broadway songs, including ballads and tuneful melodies. This is where Duncan Sheik on music and Steven Sater on lyrics certainly let us down. It also has some of the most exciting, and fetching rock songs or ‘indie rock' ever presented on a Broadway stage. This is where Sheik and Sater make SPRING AWAKENING a rock concert with theatrical surroundings. Or, perhaps they made a theatrical show and infused it with a rock concert sensibility.

Broadway's most talked about new musical and the biggest Tony Award®-winner in years is coming to the Adrienne Arsht Center for the Performing Arts of Miami-Dade County. Spring Awakening, the 8-time Tony Award® winning Broadway musical, will open on May 11, 2010 at the Adrienne Arsht Center for the Performing Arts of Miami-Dade County and play for eight performances through May 16th. 'Dirty Rotten Scoundrels' will be directed by Danny Weathers with musical direction by Michael Fauss and choreography by Penny Leto. The musical has a book by Jeffrey Lane with music/lyrics by David Yazbek. The musical is based on the movie of the same name starring Michael Caine and Steve Martin. It ran on Broadway for almost 2 years and was nominated for 10 Tony Awards, including Best Musical.

David Leddick (www.DavidLeddick.net) has written a book about escorts. Out of this book, if you can believe it, comes a new musical: 'Escorts.' The show reveals the stories of escorts in words, song, and dance and in the flesh.

After the universal acclaim that accompanied Caldwell Theatre's 2009 Summer season, (Vices: A Love Story, The Whipping Man) Artistic Director Clive Cholerton, has chosen again to counter program against traditional summer fare, and will produce a World premiere in Joel Gross's highly emotional romantic drama, The Comfort of Darkness, preceded by the Southeastern premiere of Bob Clyman's successful comedic thriller, Secret Order.

Directed by Cameron Murray, 'Stepping Out' features a cast of some of Key West's best comedic actors. The show opens on May 6 and runs until May 29th (Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays) with a curtain time of 8:30 pm. The PlayGround Theatre has received a National Endowment for the Arts (NEA) 2010 Grant Award for Access to Artistic Excellence. This NEA grant will fund The PlayGround's Theatre Inclusion Program. Artistic Director Stephanie Ansin and All Children Together inclusion specialist Lee Morgenstern will collaborate with VSA Arts of Florida to enhance the experience of disabled, sensory-impaired, and learning disabled youth and adults who attend programs and events at The PlayGround Theater. This $15,000 grant will also support the expansion of the Theater Inclusion Program by providing support for programs and events offering live audio description, theatrical sign language interpreters, open captioning, wheelchair accessible transportation and touch tours.
