Whidbey Island Center for the Arts Presents Photography Exhibition, 1/23December 30, 2010The Whidbey Island Center for the Arts and the Whidbey Island Jewish Community will host Who's Minding the Store? on Sunday, January 23, 2011. Who's Minding the Store? is an exhibition of photographs celebrating 150 years of Jewish Business and Commerce in the Pacific Northwest. The images are from the Jewish Archives Project, a joint program of the Washington State Jewish Historical Society and the University of Washington Libraries.

Opera Index Honors Two Singers at Winter Gala, 1/16December 30, 2010Opera Index presents its 2011 Distinguished Achievement Award to two pioneering Metropolitan Opera artists-tenor George Shirley and posthumously to the late mezzo-soprano Shirley Verrett-at its 27th annual black-tie winter gala on Sunday, January 16. The gala begins at 6 p.m. and will be held in the Grand Salon of the Jumeirah Essex House, the luxury hotel on Central Park South, following a reception in the Petit Salon. The awards will be presented by bass-baritone Spiro Malas. Last year's Distinguished Achievement Award recipient was soprano Patrice Munsel.

Lea Michele Hopes to Record Solo Album...in the FutureDecember 28, 2010Although she currently says she is 'not ready,' Lea Michele has announced that she hopes to one day record a solo album, following in the footsteps of GLEE costar Matthew Morrison. For the time being, Michele wants to focus on her acting career and developing the character of Rachel Berry. Speaking to Us Weekly, she said 'I think a solo CD is definitely in my future, but that is a really big commitment. Rachel's my baby, and making an album would be like taking care of another baby. And I'm not really ready to have another kid yet!'
Seyfried and Paul Return for 'Big Love Series' FinaleDecember 28, 2010As reported by TV Guide, Amanda Seyfried and Aaron Paul will return to HBO's Big Love for the series finale. Seyfried and Paul's characters Sarah and Scott got married and moved to Portland near the end of last season, effectively removing them from the show. This allowed them to focus on other projects. Amanda Seyfried has seen recent success in movies including Mamma Mia!, Dear John, and Letters to Juliet whereas Aaron Paul has been busy working on AMC's Breaking Bad, a role he won an Emmy for in 2010.
'Grey Gardens,' 'Saturday Night Live' et al. Added to National Film RegistryDecember 28, 2010Earlier today the National Film Registry of the Library of Congress published a list of 25 films to be added to the list of over 500 respected movies dating back to 1891. As specified by the National Film Preservation Act, the Library of Congress names 25 movies every year to the registry that are 'culturally, historically, or aesthetically' significant. The movies do not need to be feature-length, or even have had a theatrical release; however they do need to be at least 10 years old.

HATCH, based on the popular children's book by Eileen Spinelli, illustrated by Paul Yalowitz (©1991 by Eileen Spinelli, Simon & Schuster, Inc.). The production is adapted by Lifeline Theatre ensemble member Frances Limoncelli, music and lyrics by George Howe, and directed by Ann Boyd. Dull and predictable Mr. Hatch had always lived an isolated life until one Valentine's Day, when an unexpected delivery transforms the town's most unsociable hermit into everyone's favorite friend. Share in a heartwarming tale of companionship and acceptance, as Mr. Hatch's neighbors get to know the mysterious man next door. This production is appropriate for children ages five and up, and runs approximately one hour with no intermission. The book and cast recording CDs will be on sale in the lobby.
