On this day in 2000, previews began for Mel Brooks' and Susan Stroman's hotly anticipated musical adaptation of his classic comedy The Producers. Now an obsolete tradition in the age of technology as well a sign of the success to come, on this historic morning, a lengthy line of ticket buyers made its way down the street from the St. James box office, welcoming the buzzy new show to the neighborhood.  

Fresh off its 2017 People's Choice Award for “Favorite Cable TV Comedy,” Freeform's hit sitcom “Baby Daddy” kicked off its sixth season on its new night boasting solid gains over its summer 2016 premiere and finale for 9-month highs in Total Viewers (990,000) and Adults 18-49 (639,000/0.5 rating) and an 8-month high in Women 18-49 (462,000/0.7 rating) – since 6/22/16 and 7/6/16, respectively – ranking as the No. 1 scripted cable TV telecast in its time period in the key adult demos.

“Shades of Blue,” NBC's gritty drama starring Jennifer Lopez and Ray Liotta about corruption in the NYPD and the ramifications that ensue, has been renewed for a third season.

 NBC's new competition series “World of Dance” revealed today the 47 elite dance acts competing for a life-altering grand prize of $1 million and title of “Best in the World.” The 10-episode series will give dancers the platform to showcase their talents, led by a judging team of extraordinary dance superstars — Jennifer Lopez (who also serves as an executive producer), Derek Hough, NE-YO and host/mentor Jenna Dewan Tatum.

Building on the momentum of another highly successful season in which NBC once again ranks #1 in adults 18-49, the network has announced the rollout of an ambitious summer schedule that includes the premiere of new dance competition series “World of Dance” with judges Jennifer Lopez, Derek Hough, NE-YO and host/mentor Jenna Dewan Tatum; the return of the #1 show of summer, “America's Got Talent,” with new host Tyra Banks; and the network's obstacle course sensation, “American Ninja Warrior.”

On this day in 2005, Monty Python's SPAMALOT, the smash hit musical lovingly ripped-off from the internationally famous comedy team's most popular motion picture, Monty Python and the Holy Grail, began previews at the Shubert Theater on Broadway.

Syfy today announced a Season 3 pickup of THE EXPANSE, the drama series called the “best sci-fi show on TV” by io9 and recognized for “transforming TV” by Wired. The 13-episode third season will premiere on Syfy in 2018. From Alcon Television Group, THE EXPANSE is currently airing new Season 2 episodes every Wednesday at 10/9c on Syfy.

Kaija Saariaho's L'Amour de Loin ('Love From Afar'), one of the most highly praised operas of recent years, airs on Great Performances at the Met Sunday, April 2 at 12 p.m. on PBS (check local listings). (In New York, THIRTEEN will air the opera at 12:30 p.m.)

Shemar Moore will return to CRIMINAL MINDS to guest star in the series' 12th season finale, Wednesday, May 10 (9:00-10:00 PM, ET/PT) on the CBS Television Network. Moore, an original cast member from 2005-2016 (251 episodes), will reprise his role as Derek Morgan.

The cast and the audience at Come From Away got a special treat from up north this evening when Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau took the stage ahead of the Canadian-born musical to address the audience. Trudeau is in the city to celebrate the show and to attend his first in the Broadway musical.

On this day in 1956, Julie Andrews and Rex Harrison took to the Broadway stage for opening night of a musical retelling of George Bernard Shaw's Pygmalion. Under the tutelage of linguist, Henry Higgins, a poor Cockney flower girl is transformed into a woman of society in this Lerner and Loewe musical theatre gem aptly titled, My Fair Lady.

Bron Creative will executive produce and co-finance THE NIGHTINGALE, a period thriller written and directed by Jennifer Kent, who previously wrote and directed the acclaimed feature The Babadook.  Made Up Stories, together with major production investment from Screen Australia, and in association with the Tasmanian Government through Screen Tasmania, and the South Australian Film Corporation will co-finance the picture as well. THE NIGHTINGALE will begin production in March in Tasmania, Australia.
