Growing up is scary. Technically, I’ve been a “grownup” for a little over a year, but I consider myself a “pretend adult”. Am I an adult in the eyes of the government and the law? Yes, and that’s where it ends. I’m going into my second year of community college, I still live with my parents, and I’m getting paid to run a TikTok account. Best of all, I have the financial stability and the time to devote to community theatre. These are quite literally the best years of my life. A year from now, I’ll have to become a real adult. I’ll be moving out and away to a 4-year university to complete my Bachelor’s in Science. I’m still on track to graduate with a BS in Hospitality Management with a minor in Event Planning. My dream is (to be on Broadway) to plan and supervise events for a theater or a theatre company; if you’re hiring and you identify as one of these options, specifically if it would be for the Hollywood Pantages Theatre or the Segerstrom Center for the Arts, I’d appreciate the consideration!

For the remainder of my time in my hometown, I do believe I’ve taken my final bow at the first theater I ever performed at. I didn’t even come to this realization until that final bow had come and gone. This isn’t to say that I won’t be doing any more theatre, in the next year, it just won’t be on that stage. As for the rest of 2024, my last community theatre show closes at the end of July. This passion is so ingrained in me that when I didn’t have a show lined up for the fall, I felt empty. It turns out, I do have a show lined up to work on in the fall, just not in the way I expected. I’ve only ever been a part of the cast, but I am so excited to be a part of a creative team. I will be assistant directing a production of Romeo & Juliet that will go up in 2025! I’ve unlocked the next level of the theatre bug: doing it in any and all capacities. I’m so grateful for this opportunity and so stoked that I’ll get to bring you all along for the ride!

Once I move to finish college, my focus will be on my career; prioritizing my classes and an internship/job that will place me on my career path, will be number one. It might seem silly to some, but I feel like I’m saying goodbye to a part of myself. I would love to have time to still do theatre, but I have to make adult decisions and put my career and future degree first. I hope with all of my heart that everything works out and I get to continue to perform. Though it would be initially scary, how exciting would it be to do theatre with a brand new community; a fresh start and new mindsets?

This year will be full of firsts and lasts, so expect it to be a bittersweet journey. The future is bright and I’m ready to meet it with no regrets. Follow your heart and believe in your gut feelings, they won’t lead you astray.

Until next time,

Brynna
