You will be absolutely charmed by Surya, a recent addition to the West Village dining scene. This Indian restaurant on Bleecker Street is a real standout. Culinary excellence is combined with welcoming, gracious service and a price point that is just right. Open seven days a week for lunch, dinner, weekend brunch and a daily Happy Hour, guests have a reason to return again and again. Walk-ins are available but we suggest you make reservations. Surya is already an area favorite and the restaurant fills up quickly.

We like that Surya has a variety of seating options, from high-top tables overlooking the street, to cozy tables for two or more and a spacious bar. Whether you are going solo, or gathering friends and family the venue is absolutely pleasing.

Chef/Owner Lala Sharma brings his well-known culinary talents back to the neighborhood along with some great new surprises. Surya features both traditional and modern Indian cuisine using the finest ingredients and exquisite seasonings.

We visited early on a Friday evening and started our dining experience with some of Surya's inspired cocktail choices and a few of their "Chaats." These Indian street foods are perfect small plates like their Samosa Chaat, Spinach Palak Moong Chaat or the Aloo Tikki Chaat. You'll love their specialty drinks that include the "Cricket Club" with Goslings Black Seal rum, ginger beer, fresh squeezed lime and sugarcane or the "East India Company" with D'usse VSOP Cognac, Combier, Luxardo Maraschino and Peychaud's Bitters.

Surya has a fantastic array of dinner choices with soups, salads, entrees and sides that will please all tastes. Their expertly prepared Crispy Salmon is a savory dish made with Fenugreek Salmon, turmeric, tamarind sauce and the freshest vegetables. The Calicut Pepper Chicken is perfectly seasoned with green chilies, ginger, curry and curry leaves. Vegetarian dishes like their Tandoori Grill Vegetable and Vegan dishes like their Potato and Eggplant insure that everyone at your table can indulge in a wonderful meal. And enjoy their house-made breads that include Garlic Naan, Roti or Poori. Be certain to pair one of their fine wine selections with your meal or have a delightful beverage like their Mango Lassi or Masala Chai.

The tempting dessert selection includes light choices like fruit sorbet or their pastry dumpling, Gualab Jamun. Creamy Fig Ice Cream and one of our favorites, Rasmalai, a cheese dumpling sweetened in milk and rose water can also top of your meal.

Your time at Surya guarantees a relaxing, completely satisfying dining experience. The restaurant is also close to West Village popular entertainment venues like The Bitter End, right across the street. Find out what everyone is talking about on Bleecker Street and visit Surya.
