New York Shakespeare Exchange (NYSX), creator of the viral smash The Sonnet Project, announced their return to Hell's Kitchen for their September ShakesBEER, NYC's original Shakespearean pub-crawl. Two upcoming ShakesBeer events will take place on Saturday, September 12th and on Saturday, September 19th. Join the merriment and experience the Bard as you raise a glass with friends.

The three-hour pub-crawl is divided between four bars, with Shakespearian scenes breaking out at each location. The actors are shoulder-to-shoulder with the audience, drawing them in and making this experience about as "up-close and personal" as Shakespeare gets. Featuring scenes from As You Like It, Much Ado About Nothing, Merry Wives of Windsor, and Henry IV, Part 1, this end-of-summer Shakespearean bash features plenty of romance, a few mistaken identities, and everyone's favorite tippler Sir John Falstaff.

Each of the Saturday events kicks off at Landsdowne Road (599 Tenth Avenue, between 43rd and 44th Streets) before moving on to Perdition (692 10th Avenue, between 48th and 49th Streets), The Gaf (401 W 48th Street, between 9th and 10th Avenues), and ending at The Waylon (736 10th Avenue, at 50th Street). Admission for each of the Saturday ShakesBEER programs is $45, which includes four drink tickets redeemable for beer, wine and select cocktails at the participating bars.

The featured actors include Carey Van Driest (The International at Playwrights Horizons, Othello for NYSX); Chris Thorn (Twelfth Night for Pig Iron Theatre Company); Brendan Averett (Julie Taymor's A Midsummer Night's Dream at TFANA, Titus Andronicus for NYSX); Shane Breaux (Yahweh's Follies at Ars Nova); Harry Barandes(Richard III at The Public Theater; The Grapes of Wrath for Steppenwolf Theatre Company, Island for NYSX);Elizabeth Neptune (Island and The Life and Death of King John for NYSX); Sarah Nedwek (Dolores at Abingdon Theatre; Inherit the Wind and Emma at the Cleveland Playhouse).

The directors are Eva Gil, Ross Williams, and Carey Van Driest. The September ShakesBEER events are produced by Kim Krane and Cristina Lundy.

New York Shakespeare Exchange (NYSX) offers theatrical programming that explores what happens when contemporary culture is infused with Shakespearean poetry and themes in unexpected ways. Providing fresh points of entry to the work so that modern audiences will be exposed to the intrinsic power of Shakespeare, NYSX's goal is to encourage appreciation of classical theater and to expand the reach of the art form within new and existing audiences. ###

Check-in for each of the ShakesBeer events on 9/12 and 9/19 begins at 2:30 PM at Landsdowne Road for the 3 PM kick off. Tickets are available at www.shakespeareexchange.org or at the door. Advance booking is strongly recommended.
