The Met celebrates the new year with a new production of Bizet's Carmen by acclaimed English director Carrie Cracknell, opening on Sunday, December 31, at 6:30PM. In her highly anticipated Met debut, Cracknell reinvigorates the classic story of deadly passion with a staging that moves the action to modern day and explores themes that could not be more relevant today: gendered violence, abusive labor structures, and the desire to break through societal boundaries.

Joel Dommel is originally from Whitehall, PA, is a recent graduate of The Hartt School with a BFA in Music Theatre. Regional credits include: The Who's Tommy (Captain Walker), Sweeney Todd (Anthony Hope), Titanic: The Musical (Frederick Barrett), and Parade (Britt Craig). Joel was also featured as the lead role in the new musical 'Not Wanted on the Voyage' (Dr. Noyes), as apart of the Goodspeed Opera House's New Artist Festival in 2012. Joel has recently moved to New York and is humbled and honored to be a part of this NYMF competition.
