East West Players Extends Run of Musical CHESS to June 23rd

East West Players (EWP), the nation's largest producing organization of Asian American artistic work and the longest-running professional theatre of color in the country, has extended the run of CHESS, now through June 23rd, 2013. All performances are staged at the David Henry Hwang Theater at the Union Center for the Arts at 120 Judge John Aiso St., Los Angeles, CA 90012. Performances are Wednesdays, Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays at 8pm, and Sundays at2pm. (more...)

Theatre Planners will present a World Premiere play, THE ASSASSINATION OF LEON TROTSKY: A COMEDY, written by Peter Lefcourt, and directed by Terri Hanauer. THE ASSASSINATION OF LEON TROTSKY: A COMEDY will preview on Friday, June 21 at 8pmand will open on Saturday, June 22 at 8pm and will run through Saturday, July 28 as a guest production at the Odyssey Theatre, 2055 S. Just yesterday, cast members from off-Broadway's Peter and the Starcatcher were on hand as Two Boots Pizza in Hell's Kitchen celebrated the unveiling of their May "Broadway Pizza" slice, "The Starcatcher." RoCo Dance Celebrates 20th Anniversary With New Original Dance Production, PETER

PETER is a surreal fantasy bridging the old world with the new and into the future. Each chapter of the story is stylized though genres of dance by introducing ballet, modern, hip hop, jazz and break dancing. RoCo narrates PETER through dynamic movement, video projection, original music score, costumes and unique light design. Performers include selected upper level dancers from RoCo Dance's teen program. The first half of each evening will open with its own separate showing of "RoCo Dance Onstage", which will showcase dances of all genres and age groups. This performance will include RoCo's youth dancers that are not performing in the main production. RoCo's PETER performance will begin after intermission. (more...)

Barrie's Rosalind and The Twelve Pound Look with direction by Artistic Director J. R. Sullivan.The New York Times says, "How refreshing it is to be reminded of this feminist battle cry not by a straight-out-of-central-casting cliche but by an early-20th-century nobleman whom we usually associate with boyish fantasies." while Time Out New York says, "Barrie's still-fresh 1914 twosome...makes heroes of self-willed, single, middle-aged women.
