High Fell Productions in association with Neil McPherson for the Finborough Theatre presents THE BLOOD IS STRONG by David Hutchison. Directed by Bruce Guthrie, the show is designed by Gabriella Slade with lighting by Humphrey McDermott and sound by Josh Richardson. Risteard Cooper, Brian Cox, Dervla Kirwan, Peter McDonald and Ardal O'Hanlon will star in The Weir, directed by Josie Rourke from 18 April to 8 June 2013. Following this, The Night Alive will make its world premiere on 13 June, directed by McPherson himself. The cast for The Night Alive are Caoilfhionn Dunne, Brian Gleeson, Ciaran Hinds, Michael McElhatton and Jim Norton. (more...)

Today the Donmar Warehouse announces the cast for The Weir, which will be followed by the world premiere of a new play also by Conor McPherson this June. The casts for both shows represent a gathering of some of the finest exponents of McPherson's work and the back to back productions will allow audiences to see his latest work alongside his recognised masterpiece. TimeLine Theatre Company, dedicated to presenting plays inspired by history that connect to today's social and political issues, announces its four-play 2013-14 season: Lorraine Hansberry's classic drama set in Chicago A RAISIN IN THE SUN, directed by Ron OJ Parson; Larry Kramer's Tony Award-winning Broadway play THE NORMAL HEART, directed by TimeLine Associate Artistic Director Nick Bowling; a third play to be announced; and the Chicago premiere of the musical JUNO, with book by Joseph Stein, music and lyrics by Marc Blitzstein, based on the classic Irish play Juno and the Paycock by Sean O'Casey, directed by Nick Bowling with musical direction by Doug Peck and Elizabeth Doran. UPDATE: Ed Asner 'Fine' After Being Hospitalized During Performance of FDR; Son Releases Statement

According to TMZ, Ed Asner, who most recently appeard on Broadway in GRACE, was taken to the hospital yesterday in Gary, Indiana during a performance of FDR. The 83-year-old, was 15 minutes into the one-man play when crew members helped him off stage, noticing that he was having trouble with his lines. There is no word yet on his current health status. Happy Birthday Norbert Leo Butz! Butz made his Broadway debut as Adam Pascal's replacement as Roger Davis in Rent in 1996. Additional Broadway credits include Thou Shalt Not (Camille Raquin, 2001-2002), for which he received a Tony Award nomination; Wicked (the original Fiyero, 2003) and Dirty Rotten Scoundrels (Freddy) for which he received the Tony Award for Best Leading Actor in a Musical, the Drama Desk Award for Outstanding Actor in a Musical, a Drama League Award, and an Outer Critics Circle Award. His Off-Broadway credits include The Last Five Years (Jamie), Songs for a New World (Lead Male 2), Saved (Fred), and Juno and the Paycock (Jerry Devine). MOst recently, Butz originated the role of Carl Hanratty in the new musical Catch Me If You Can. For this role he won his second Drama Desk Award for Outstanding Actor in a Musical[14] and his second Tony Award for Best Actor in a Musical. (more...)

Casting has been announced for The Hub Theatre's spring production of LAUREN YEE's time-bending comedy, A MAN, HIS WIFE AND HIS HAT. SASHA OLINICKleads the cast as Hetchman, a retired hatmaker and title character of the piece. Olinick earned rave reviews as Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart in the Round House Theatre production of AMADEUS.
