Kevin Kline, Glenn Close, Eric Idle and Martin Short Headline The Public's THE PIRATES OF PENZANCE Benefit!

The Public Theater announced today that Kevin Kline will reprise his Tony Award-winning role of The Pirate King with Glenn Close as Ruth, Eric Idle as the Sergeant, and Martin Short as Major-General Stanley in the one-night-only concert performance of THE PIRATES OF PENZANCE for The Public's annual gala. Co-chaired by Sir Howard Stringer, Arielle Tepper Madover, and Renee Beaumont, this unforgettable summer evening will also honor the late Nora Ephron who was a long-time board member and consummate lover of The Public's Shakespeare in the Park. BUYER & CELLAR, Starring Michael Urie, to Transfer to Barrow Street Theatre, 6/18-24

Producers Darren Bagert, Dan Shaheen, and Ted Snowdon have announced that the hit comedy Buyer & Cellar, starring Michael Urie ('Ugly Betty'), written by Jonathan Tolins, and directed by Stephen Brackett, will transfer to the Barrow Street Theatre for a ten-week engagement beginning Tuesday, June 18, at 7:30pm and opening Monday, June 24. Winners Announced for 5th Annual August Wilson Monologue Competition

Jujamcyn Theaters and True Colors Theatre Company (Kenny Leon, Co-Founding Artistic Director) have announced that Thembisile Gxuluwe from West Mifflin Area High School near Pittsburgh has won first place at the 5th Annual August Wilson Monologue Competition held on Monday, May 6th at at the August Wilson Theatre (245 West 52nd Street). Pablo Lopez from Los Angeles was the runner-up, and an honorable mention went to Branndin Phillips-Laramorefrom Chicago. The event, which was free and open to the public, featured high school students from Atlanta, Boston, Chicago, Los Angeles, New York, Pittsburgh and Seattle performing monologues by the late, legendary American playwright. Cynthia Nixon Narrates Pit Stop Players' THE RITE STUFF Tonight

Producer Rocco Landesman Joins St. Louis Walk of Fame

Broadway producer Rocco Landesman was born and raised in St. Louis, where his family owned the Crystal Palace, a Gaslight Square cabaret that featured cutting edge theater and performers. Landesman developed and produced the Broadway musical Big River, which won 7 Tony Awards in 1985. (more...)

Shakespeare on the Sound to Stage AS YOU LIKE IT, 6/13-30

Connecticut's premier outdoor Shakespeare will present As You Like It, June 13-30, 2013. The show is one of Shakespeare's most beloved and pastoral comedies. Claire Shannon Kelly, currently the Director of Youth Programming for Shakespeare on the Sound and the director of the company's touring educational program, 'Speaking Daggers,' will direct. Kelly previously worked at the Ordway Theater, the Guthrie Theater, the Shakespeare Theatre of New Jersey and the George Street Playhouse. She is a resident of New Canaan. (more...)

The 2014 season of New York City Center's Tony Award-winning Encores! series will open with Little Me directed by John Rando and starring Christian Borle ('Smash,' Peter and the Starcatcher) on February 5, 2014. The season will continue with The Most Happy Fella, directed and choreographed by Casey Nicholaw and starring Shuler Hensley (Oklahoma!, The Whale), followed by Irma La Douce, directed by John Doyle. Sundance Institute to Honor Roger Ebert, Ryan Coogler at LA Benefit, 6/5

The third annual Celebrate Sundance Institute Los Angeles Benefit, celebrating artistry and visionary leadership in independent film. This year, the benefit will honor the life and work of beloved journalist and film critic Roger Ebert with the Vanguard Leadership Award in Memoriam, in recognition of his advocacy of independent cinema. The award will be presented by Sundance Institute President and Founder Robert Redford and accepted by Ebert's wife, Chaz Ebert. Kerry Washington will present Ryan Coogler with the Vanguard Award, Presented by Tiffany & Co. Coogler is a director and alum of the Sundance Institute Feature Film Program. His first feature film, Fruitvale Station, was selected for Sundance Institute's Screenwriters Lab and went on to win both the Grand Jury Prize and the Audience Award at the 2013 Sundance Film Festival. Christian Borle Signs On for Michael Mann's Upcoming Cyber Thriller

The Tony-winning actor, who recently starred on NBC's SMASH, has officially signed on for Michael Mann's upcoming, untitled cyber thriller set in China, according to Deadline. Borle joins Chris Hemsworth, Viola Davis and Holt McCallany for the film from Legendary Pictures. Mann penned with the script alongside Morgan Davis Foehl. (more...)

Mary-Arrchie Theatre Co. Presents UNCLE BOB, Opening 6/13

Mary-Arrchie Theater Co. is excited to announce that on it's 27th Anniversary, Thursday, June 13, 2013 at 8 p.m. it will open a production of Austin Pendleton's Uncle Bob. It will run Thursday-Saturday at 8 p.m.and Sunday at 7 p.m. Tickets will be $25. There will be previews on June 11 and 12 at 8 p.m. and the preview ticket price will be $15. It will be mounted at Angel Island which is at 735 W. Sheridan in Chicago, Illinois. There is parking available at the Mobil Gas station across from the theater for a price to be determined by Mobil. Michael Urie, Annaleigh Ashford, Kristine Nielsen and Lewis J. Stadlen Earn Actors' Equity Foundation's Richard Seff & Clarence Derwent Awards!

Kristine Nielsen and Lewis J. Stadlen have been named to receive the annual Richard Seff Award presented by the Actors' Equity Foundation. The award honors a veteran female and male character actor for the best performance in a supporting role in a Broadway or Off-Broadway production. The announcement was made by Arne Gundersen, president of the Actors' Equity Foundation, which administers the Award. (more...)

AWA Partners to Expand to Create Broadway Booking Agency

AWA Partners has just announced that they are joining forces with OBB/Off Broadway Booking to expand operations as a full-service agency. The new company will operate under the banner of AWA Partners and provide tour direction and booking for attractions spanning from multi-week national tours to single night performances, domestically and internationally, and in venues ranging from performing arts centers of all sizes to arenas and clubs. Partners in the newly expanded company will be L. Glenn Poppleton, Alison Spiriti and Orin Wolf. L. Glenn Poppleton will serve as president of the agency.
