At the 2016 edition of BROADWAY BACKWARDS, Broadway legend Chita Rivera brought her own brand of 'razzle-dazzle' to Kander and Ebb's 'All I Care About is Love' from CHICAGO. The actress delivered an unforgettable take on swarmy lawyer Billy Flynn, surrounded by a bevy of feathery beauties, many from the original 1996 CHICAGO revival cast, including Nili Bassman, Mindy Cooper, Mamie Duncan-Gibbs, Gabriela Garcia, Mary Ann Lamb, Dana Moore and Solange Sandy. The annual celebration, where men sing songs originally written for women and vice versa offering this audience the chance to see LGBT stories told through the great songs of musical theatre, set a new fundraising record. The first Broadway production of Dames at Sea opened at Broadway's Helen Hayes Theater (240 W 44th Street), just last night, October 22, and BroadwayWorld was there for all of the festivities. After six long years, the wait is finally over! The musical web series THE BATTERY'S DOWN, which wrapped up its final season in late 2009, has returned for a reunion special (which aired on Hulu earlier this week) and a Joe's Pub concert, with performances from original cast members (and some very special guests). SPRING AWAKENING's strictly limited 18-week-only engagement started previews on September 8. On the heels of being named the first female African-American principal dancer for the American Ballet Theatre, Misty Copeland joined the cast of Broadway's ON THE TOWN on Tuesday, Augst 25th in the role of 'Ivy'. Copeland will be performing through September 6. The Huffington Post just unveiled a behind-the-scenes profile of her journey from rehearsals to opening night on Broadway, featuring interviews with Misty and her co-star Tony Yazbeck.
