Hugh Jackman was born in Sydney, Australia, on October 12, 1968, the youngest of five children. After earning a BA degree in Communication from the University of Technology, Sydney, Hugh turned his attention to drama. He was accepted into the prestigious Western Australian Academy of Performing Arts and graduated in 1994. Upon graduation, Hugh was offered a starring role in the Australian television series "Correlli". As Hugh has said, he was unemployed for about '15 seconds'. It was on the set of "Correlli" that Hugh met the woman who is now his wife, actress/director Deborra-Lee Furness. They married in 1996 and are the proud parents of a son, Oscar, born in 2000, shortly before the premiere of Hugh's American film debut, "X-Men".
Hugh made his New York debut on June 6, 2002, in a benefit concert of Rodgers & Hammerstein's "Carousel" at Carnegie Hall. Hugh sang the role of Billy Bigelow opposite Audra McDonald as Julie Jordan.
Hugh made his Broadway debut as Peter Allen (a favorite son of his native Australia) in the 2003 musical "The Boy From Oz", the first Australian musical to come to Broadway. Hugh's amazing performance in the show earned him the Tony Award for Best Performance by a Leading Actor in a Musical.
