Cherry Jones began her stage career in 1980 as a founding member of the American Repertory Theater in Cambridge, Massachusetts. Her extensive Broadway credits include Our Country's Good, A Moon for the Misbegotten (2000), Angels in America: Millennium Approaches and Perestroika (1994), Imaginary Friends, The Heiress (1995), and Doubt (2005). She earned Tony Awards for Best Leading Actress in a Play for her performances in The Heiress and Doubt.
In 2012, Jones returned to the American Repertory Theater for a revival of The Glass Menagerie at the Loeb Drama Center, taking on the role of Amanda Wingfield.
Her film work includes appearances in Cradle Will Rock (1999), The Perfect Storm (2000), Signs (2002), Ocean's Twelve (2004), The Village (2004), and Wine Country (2019).
On television, Jones played President Allison Taylor on 24 during the series' seventh and eighth seasons in 2009 and 2010. She went on to star as Dr. Judith Evans in Awake in 2012 and appeared in Transparent in 2015 and 2016. Her other television credits include the 2016 Black Mirror episode "Nosedive" and the role of Holly Osborne on The Handmaid's Tale in 2018.
Jones has also lent her voice to audiobook editions of Laura Ingalls Wilder's beloved Little House series. Her narration credits include Little House in the Big Woods, Little House on the Prairie, Farmer Boy, On the Banks of Plum Creek, By the Shores of Silver Lake, The Long Winter, and Little Town on the Prairie.
