Peggy Lee, Billie Holiday, Betty Carter and Abbey Lincoln weren’t just great jazz vocalists – they were also songwriters, who contributed some key works to the canon.
In Women’s Words, Sisters' Stories, vocalist Ineza and the Alex Webb Trio explore the repertoire penned by the great female songstresses – Billie’s Tell Me More, Peggy’s It’s a Good Day, Abbey’s Throw it Away, Betty Carter's Tight and many more, including poet Fran Landesman’s classic lyric Spring Can Really Hang You Up The Most. And bringing it up to date are songs by Jazzmeia Horn, Cecile Mclorin Salvant and Rachelle Ferrell.
Ineza is a Rwandan-born Belgian Jazz singer, based in London. She is a graduate of both Trinity Laban Conservatoire of Music and Dance, and Maastricht Conservatoire in The Netherlands. Ineza was one of only eight artists to be awarded a place at the second edition of artist development program LEAP, organized by international music producers Serious. She is also a passionate educator.
