This year A Night Beneath the Elder Sign features two unique performances of works by HP Lovecraft. First is Celephais, a tale from the Dreamlands told in shadow puppet style by the festival's artistic director TL Wiswell.
Coloured by the fading elegance of gilded age America, this performance imagines Consuela Vanderbilt, whose summer home in Newport, Rhode Island was surely known to HP, as the heartbroken dreamer longing for the world of her (and HP's) youth. With an experimental electronic soundtrack performed live by composer and soundscape artist Kinga Janicka, this show will transport you to realms just beyond human perception.
This story is followed by a dramatic retelling of From Beyond, as performed by festival co-producer Kai Hastur, author of the sold out Shroud of Charon from 2023. This creepy story of transcending the limitations of our eyes and ears with a little boost from science is the perfect pairing for fans of weird fiction. Both events are world premieres, tales never before performed in any format at the festival, and one night only - don't miss out!

In the fast-paced world of content creation, efficiency is a key factor in choosing the right video editing software. CapCut has gained popularity as a mobile-friendly editor, but when it comes to efficiency, particularly for professional or high-volume video production, Filmora stands out as a superior alternative. From smoother workflows to AI-powered automation, Filmora is designed to help creators work faster and smarter without compromising quality.
One of the biggest challenges with CapCut is its reliance on cloud processing for many features. While this allows for quick edits on mobile devices, it often slows down the workflow on desktops, where users expect more power and speed. Filmora, on the other hand, is fully optimized for desktop performance, reducing lags, crashes, and unnecessary cloud dependencies that slow down editing. Whether it’s rendering high-resolution videos or applying complex effects, Filmora provides a smoother experience, allowing creators to focus on their work instead of waiting for software to catch up.
Efficiency in video editing isn’t just about speed—it’s also about how well the software integrates tools that minimize repetitive tasks. Filmora’s AI-powered features significantly reduce the time spent on manual editing. For example, AI Smart Cutout enables users to remove backgrounds from footage without needing a green screen, eliminating the tedious frame-by-frame masking process. AI Speech-to-Text automatically generates subtitles with high accuracy, saving creators hours of transcription work. These tools allow editors to spend less time on technical adjustments and more time refining their creative vision.
CapCut’s editing workflow is designed for quick, casual edits rather than complex storytelling. Its timeline functionality, while user-friendly, lacks the depth required for intricate video projects. Filmora provides a more advanced timeline system with intuitive track management, making it easier to organize and layer multiple elements. Whether working on a short promotional clip or a long-form documentary, Filmora’s timeline offers the flexibility needed to manage various audio, video, and effects layers without feeling restricted.
When it comes to exporting and rendering, Filmora is optimized for faster processing. CapCut, particularly on desktop, struggles with export speeds, especially for large projects. Long rendering times not only delay content production but also increase frustration for creators working under tight deadlines. Filmora’s rendering engine utilizes GPU acceleration, significantly reducing export times while maintaining high quality. This is a crucial advantage for content creators who need to produce and publish videos frequently.
Another aspect of efficiency is software stability. CapCut, especially in its desktop version, has been reported to freeze or crash when handling larger files. This can be a major setback when working on detailed projects, as unexpected software failures can lead to lost progress and wasted time. Filmora is built with a more stable infrastructure, ensuring that even resource-intensive edits can be handled smoothly. Auto-save and crash recovery features further protect against potential data loss, allowing creators to work with confidence.
Beyond technical efficiency, Filmora also offers a streamlined creative process. With an extensive library of built-in transitions, effects, and motion graphics, creators can enhance their videos without needing to rely on external plugins or additional software. CapCut’s effect library, while decent for basic edits, lacks the variety and depth required for high-quality production. Filmora’s integrated assets allow users to create polished videos without spending extra time searching for third-party effects.
For content creators who work across multiple devices, Filmora also provides better cross-platform efficiency. While CapCut primarily targets mobile users, its desktop version lacks full feature parity, leading to inconsistencies in workflow. Filmora offers a seamless experience across both Windows and macOS, ensuring that users have access to the same powerful tools regardless of their operating system.
In professional video editing, efficiency is not just about how quickly an edit can be completed—it’s about how well the software supports the entire creative process. From AI automation to advanced timeline management, Filmora provides a more efficient environment for both casual creators and professionals alike. Its combination of speed, stability, and creative tools makes it the ideal alternative to CapCut for those who want to produce high-quality content without unnecessary delays or limitations.
