Matthew Bourne's stage adaption of Edward Scissorhands, produced by New Adventures, will make its first return to the United Kingdom since its original 2005 London premiere, following a world tour. At the Theatre du Chatelet in Paris through November 2, the production will return to England, making stops at the Hippodrome Theatre in Birmingham, the Lowry Theatre in Salford and the New Wimbledon Theatre in London before returning to its original home at London's Sadler's Wells Theatre, where it will begin performances on December 2.
In addition to Paris, the world tour included stops in Antwerp, Sydney and Athens. The cast, led by
Matthew Malthouse and Dominic North, who share the title role, includes
Kerry Biggin (as Kim Boggs), Noi Tolmer (as Kim Boggs),
Etta Murfitt (as Peg Boggs),
Scott Ambler (as
Bill Boggs),
Adam Galbraith (as Jim Upton),
Steve Kirkham (as George Monroe) and
Nina Goldman (a Joyce Monroe).
Based on the 1990 Oscar-nominated film by
Tim Burton,
Edward Scissorhands features music composed, arranged and adapted by
Terry Davies based on
Danny Elfman's original film score.
The creative team includes
Matthew Bourne (pictured; Director and Choreographer), Terry Davis (Music and Arrangements),
Caroline Thompson (Original Screenplay, Story & Co-Adaption), Lez Brotherson (Designer), Howard Harrison (Lighting Designer) and
Paul Groothius (Sound Designer).
The press notes describe the show as "the touching and witty gothic fairytale of a boy created by an eccentric inventor who dies leaving him alone and unfinished. Left with only scissors for hands, Edward must find his place in a strange new suburban world where the well-meaning community struggle to see past his strange appearance to the innocence and gentleness within."
