Magic Mirrors is the theme for her exhibition of new work at the Marie Lloyd Bar. The theme is based on the stage production of Anansi and the Magic Mirrors (19 Feb – 7 Mar 2009 at the Hackney Empire Theatre).
Hackney Empire Theatre's Marie Lloyd Bar is pleased to announce a solo show of artworks by London based mixed-media painter Rosie Roksoph on view from 18 February – 7 March 2009. An opening reception will be held on Wednesday, 18 February from 6pm – 9pm. The public is invited and all are welcome.
Rosie Roksoph is a painter based in Hackney, London. She works on canvas and other mixed-media. Rosie often incorporates object trouvé in the manner of artists such as Marcel Duchamps or Dada artists Man Ray and Francis Picabia. Rosie's style has a highly theatrical twist which makes the Marie Lloyd Bar the perfect location for her artworks.
In her own words Rosie Roksoph says, "I don't look good on paper as they say. I look better on canvas- or rather the things on the canvas look good to me. Well they'd have to. I live in a space too small to swing an anorexic kitten and paint there too so if I have a bunch of angry munters staring back at me I'd be depressed quite quickly. Some would say depression and pain go hand in hand with being an artist. But I am not a visual artist really. My more profound thoughts ( though I don't profess to have profundity in spades - just teaspoons if I'm lucky ) go into my writing. I just love to paint. I'm no pro- I can't do all the clever, conceptual stuff. I can't paint with oils as I'm a liability even with the water based stuff."
Rosie's work will be on view from 18 February – 7 March 2009. The opening reception is Wednesday - 18 February from 6pm – 9pm. The public is invited and all are welcome. Rosie Roskoph will be present.
The free event will be taking place at Marie Lloyd Bar, Hackney Empire Theatre, 291 Mare Street, E8 1EJ.
