Pole Yourself Together! comes to Edinburgh this August
BWW caught up with Siân Docksey to chat about bringing Pole Yourself Together! to the 2023 Edinburgh Festival Fringe.
Tell us a bit about Pole Yourself Together!
Basically - over the pandemic, my relationship fell to pieces, I lost all my work, and I ended up living in my parents’ basement for nearly a year. I’d brought my pole home with me and I put it up down there between the car and the bins, and stopped myself from going completely mad by rolling around on it every day like a raccoon. So by the time I moved back to London I’d done so much pole dancing it seemed wasteful to not make it into a show.
Why bring it to Edinburgh?
Pole dancing has vastly improved my mental health, so it seemed about time to torpedo that by doing a run of the Fringe.
Where else might we know you from?
You may have seen me on BBC 3, in a sketch double act with Zoë Tomalin at previous Edinburgh Fringes, or on the bus.
Who would you like to come and see it?
Werner Herzog. The show is a love letter to him.
What would you like audiences to take away from it?
I’m not sure yet. Some people seem to enjoy seeing a pretty un-athletic woman manage to do really strange and impressive with her body through sheer stubbornness. Other people seem to enjoy how visibly agonising, stressful and difficult I’ve made life for myself for no good reason. So there’s something for everyone.
