BWW caught up with Ginny Hogan to chat about bringing Regression to the 2023 Edinburgh Festival Fringe.

Tell us a bit about Regression

Regression is the story of my 20s, and I wanted to tell it because I thought it was relatable to us overthinkers.

I was a data scientist, which means that I took a particularly data-driven approach to making choices, but I think that even those of us who aren't crunching exact numbers are overthinking everything. It's a coming-of-age story about learning to let go of what I thought I needed to instead make way for a little bit of peace of mind.

With this being your Edinburgh debut do you think you know what to expect from the festival?

I've been told it will be absolutely exhausting, which I am ready for, and that I can't know what to expect, which I—by definition—can't be ready for. I'm just hoping to see as many fantastic shows as I can, and to meet people from all over the world.

You had quite the career change- how did that come about?

I fell in love with stand up comedy. It was so unexpected; I didn't grow up with dreams of doing stand up, and I consider myself extremely awkward.

What would you like audiences to take away from it?

My number one goal, always, is to make audiences laugh. If I've achieved that, it's enough. But my secondary goal is to help audiences cut themselves a break. This is a show about how no one ever has anything figured out, and we're doing ourselves a disservice by pretending it's so easy to "get our lives together." I just want people to go a bit easier on themselves. But mostly, to laugh.

Ginny Hogan debut stand-up show Regression is at the Gilded Balloon Teviot – The Lounge at 1.40pm from 2nd – 27th August (not 14th) for tickets go to www.edfringe.com
