Vegas, Baby! runs at Underbelly Bristo Square throughout August
BWW catches up with Chris Turner to chat about bringing Vegas, Baby! to the 2023 Edinburgh Festival Fringe.
Tell us a bit about Vegas, Baby!
Last year I moved to Las Vegas to become the first Comedian to ever perform with Cirque du Soleil. It was a wild time, so this show is me telling that story while wearing a tuxedo and doing some freestyle rap. Plus, you get to hear what Jordan Peterson thinks of me.
What makes it such an interesting story to tell?
Las Vegas is inherently wild, the action behind the scenes at a Cirque du Soleil show is crazy, and to top it all off, I brought my 6 month old daughter along for the ride. Chaos (of all kinds) ensued.
Where else might we have seen you?
Aside from my Las Vegas residency (which is still a pretty unbelievable thing to have done!), I was the first British Comedian to perform on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert, and I’m at New York’s world famous Comedy Cellar every weekend. Quite often, Chris Rock drops in to try new jokes, and I have to go on after him. It’s pretty awesome.
Having performed at the festival before do you think you know what to expect from the Fringe?
I’ve done 12 Fringes, so I do have a decent handle on them, but that doesn’t stop Edinburgh from being the most exciting place each August. My daughter will be up with me for the month, so I’m looking forward to exploring the kids’ museums and playgrounds now that I have her to bring along. This makes it sound like I used to go to them without her, which is definitely not the case, as that’s not a great look.
Who would you recommend comes to see Vegas, Baby! ?
I like to think my shows are pretty accessible and appeal to a wide range of people, but especially if you enjoy freestyle rap, are a new parent, or like the storytelling comedy of Mike Birbiglia, you’ll have a great time.
