Not My Finest Hour comes to Edinburgh in August
BWW caught up with Alexandra Haddow to chat about bringing Not My Finest Hour to the 2023 Edinburgh Festival Fringe.
Tell us a bit about Not My Finest Hour.
It’s a show I was a bit nervous about doing at first, but I think it’s funny and important. It’s about something I did wrong in my twenties and what happened to me as a consequence of it. It’s also about losing my virginity, growing up, my hometown, and being half Scottish, and Toby Carvery. There’s something for everyone!
With this being your debut hour, do you think you know what to expect from the Fringe?
According to everyone who’s done the full run before, a breakdown around week three! Plus the chance to be a much better comedian by the end, so swings and roundabouts.
Where else might we know you from?
You might have heard me on a podcast, perhaps even my old one, The School For Dumb Women, or perhaps on the Discovery Channel with Peter Crouch when he came to watch our Dulwich Hamlet show and came round to my house for a chat about the club. That was an absolutely normal day. Other than that you’ve probably seen me out in North East London at 1am or in Greggs.
Who do you think might relate to your show?
Women I think might at points relate more, but essentially anyone who’s ever been a teenager, made a mistake, or dated someone they shouldn’t have. So hopefully a wide range of people!
What would you like audiences to take away from it?
I’d like them to feel better about their own mistakes, I’d like people to feel uplifted when they leave, and maybe realise that life isn’t as black and white as we think it might be.
