EDINBURGH 2018: BWW Q&A- Robyn Perkins Image

BWW catches up with Robyn Perkins to chat about bringing 10,000 Decisions to the 2018 Edinburgh Festival Fringe.

Tell us a bit about 10,000 Decisions.
It's a show about decision-making and how our decisions (and resulting experiences) shape who we are. It's a very honest show about relationships, and whether we can decide to be happy, while weaving in some neuroscience.

What is your career background?

Fitting to theme, I have had many careers: marine biologist, urban designer, and even a potter at one point. More specifically, my first degree was a BS in Biology. Then got a Masters (from Harvard) in Landscape Architecture. So many degrees...so little income. Still, it wasn't all a waste. I do apply my research background to my comedy.

What sets 10,000 Decisions apart from other comedy shows at the festival?
Most of the great comedy shows are honest, vulnerable, and relatable in addition to being funny. I think 10,000 Decisions achieves this. But what makes 10,000 Decisions unique is the through-line of science. In addition to being funny, you will leave with some knowledge about how our brains work.

Who would you recommend comes to see you?
Anyone who is indecisive OR anyone who struggles in relationships will relate to the show. If you are both of those things, you should consider coming twice.

Are there any other shows you're hoping to catch in Edinburgh?

Of course Robin Ince; he's kind of my idol. After that, Desiree Burch, Ian Smith and Fin Taylor always put on really interesting and hilarious shows. Ian's concept, in particular, is so...inventive/nuts/can't miss it.
