EDINBURGH 2018: BWW Q&A- Harriet Kemsley Image

BWW catches up with Harriet Kemsley to chat about bringing Slutty Joan to the 2018 Edinburgh Festival Fringe.

Tell us a bit about Slutty Joan.

It is about slut shaming which after a really long think I have decided is a bad thing. There's a bit about Incels too which I have also decided are a bad thing. What can I say - I am very smart.

Do you feel nervous doing such a personal show?

Oh god no, everything I do is personal, it's sad though as now no-one I love ever asks me anything about how I feel or what I've been up to as they know everything I've been doing from my stand up and podcast. It really works out great for them as they no longer have to actually spend time with me.

Why do you feel this is the right time for this show?

Because if I did Edinburgh Festival in July I imagine it would be a very lonely experience. Or maybe wildly successful! No competition!

Where else might we recognise you from?

My local cafe knows me as the girl that is always walking past trying to work out if they have Chocolate Guinness Cake in. I try and do it subtly but my eyesight isnt that great so I have to walk back and forth a few times. If I go inside they just shout 'WE DON"T HAVE IT TODAY' then I just turn round and walk out. Sometimes when I've been lurking round too much I send my husband.

Who would you recommend comes to see Slutty Joan?

Not my parents. Or their friends. Or my Grandma or my brother. Or my Aunt or my Godparents. Or my husbands family or anyone my Dad worked with. Basically just come if you're really cool, not related to me and think incels are a BAD thing.

See Harriet Kemsley: Slutty Joan at the Voodoo Rooms throughout the Edinburgh Festival Fringe from 1st - 26th August. For more information visit www.edfringe.com
