Lefra's farces are an annual institution, and in 2017, fans can look forward to MY MAN SE SKELMPIE SE SKELMPIE SE VROU. This hilarious comedy, under the direction of South Africa's farce king, Frans Swart, will play the old Potchefstroom City Hall as a part of this year's Aardklop Arts Festival.
In MY MAN SE SKELMPIE SE SKELMPIE SE VROU, Arno Schaap (Wynand van Vollenstee) plans to seduce Janie (Jennifer Myburgh), a beautiful young stripper, with the help of a fur coat from the shelves of his high-end fur shop, Schaap, Schaap en Zuma in Sandton. As she is married to Harry Volk (Phillru van Achterbergh), who will certainly suspect that something is amiss should his wife arrive home with such an expensive gift, Arno comes up with a plan to discount the coat so that Janie can convince Harry to buy it for her while Arno pays the difference. But Harry, who recognizes a bargain when he sees one, has his own plans for the fur - as a gift for his mistress, Sue. When Janie strips and refuses to leave the store without the coat, Arno and his assistant, Chris Haasbroek (Johny Klein), have to hatch a plan to get it back from Harry before Arno's wife, Maude (Marissa Claasen), sees her. And when Sue's husband, André (Francois van Rensburg), and the eccentric Commander Holberg and his wife (Rouel Beukes and Elma Potgieter) also arrive in the store, the scene is set for a series of hysterically funny antics to play out.
Swart, who has also adapted Wim Vorster's Afrikaans translation of John Chapman and Ray Cooney's NOT NOW, DARLING for this production, says that although he has worked on many 'crazy' farces, says that this one takes the cake. MY MAN SE SKELMPIE SE SKELMPIE SE VROU joins four other productions at the same venue, namely FIELA SE KIND, AS DROME VLERKE KRY, ONTBLOOT and MY PA.
Lefra Productions will stage MY MAN SE SKELMPIE SE SKELMPIE SE VROU on 6 October at 20:30 and 7 October at 09:00, 13:00 and 17:00. Bookings can be made online through Computicket, by phone on 0861 915 8000, or in person at any Shoprite or Checkers outlet nationwide.
