Ophelia's Jump Productions presents Quilters written by Barbara Damashek and Molly Newman. The multi-Tony Award nominated musical production plays this month at The Theatre Company Performing Arts Studio in Upland. Quilters features stirring folk music performed live by traditional instruments.
Based on the narratives of real women, this moving celebration of American Womanhood became a record-setting regional theater success before its presentations on Broadway and at the Edinburgh Festival. Combining music, dance movement and scenes of vivid dramatic intensity, the play pays eloquent tribute to the courage and spirit of our nation's pioneer women.
Originally presented by The Denver Theater Company, Quilters opened on Broadway in 1984 and was nominated for six Tony Awards, including Best Musical. The play is based on the book The Quilters: Women and Domestic Art by Patricia Cooper and Norma Bradley.
