Mad Cow Theatre is delighted to announce the cast and creative team for Steve Martin's uproariously offbeat comedy Picasso at the Lapin Agile, which will take the Harriett stage Jan. 20, 2017 as the fourth production of Mad Cow Theatre's Season 20.

Einstein and Picasso walk into a bar. Sounds like an opening of a classic joke ... But in the hands of comic genius-turned-playwright Steve Martin it becomes so much more - an exploration of creativity, physics, and one-night stands played out in hilarious and thoughtful fashion. Ostensibly set in 1904 Paris, in the moments before Einstein and Picasso's geniuses blossom, Picasso at the Lapin Agileshows their worlds colliding in the most commonplace of fashions ... and the 20thcentury is born.

"It's important to remember that the playwright of 'Picasso at the Lapin Agile' is Steve Martin, stand-up comic, actor, writer, banjo player and something of a genius in his own right," wrote The New York Times. "So when big questions are being addressed, you can be sure that a layer of silliness is always in place (and, subversively, a layer of seriousness beneath that)."

The cast of Picasso at the Lapin Agile features Mad Cow Theatre veterans Katie Ford (The Secret Garden), Sarah French (The Big Meal, You Can't Take It With You, Clybourne Park), Lily E. Garnett (the Science Play Festival's Arcadia), Glenn Gover* (The Secret Garden, The Explorers Club, The Pitmen Painters), Robert Johnston* (The History Boys, The Light in the Piazza), Tommy Keesling (Art, The History Boys, Table Manners), Sarah Lockard (1776, Major Barbara, Pericles), Andrew Romano (You Can't Take It With You), and Wesley Slade* (The Who's Tommy, Sunday in the Park With George). Joe Llorens* and Benjamin Smith are making their Mad Cow debut.

Director David Russell (You Can't Take It With You, The Explorers Club, Laughter on the 23rd Floor) returns to Mad Cow with Picasso at the Lapin Agile. Scenic design is William Elliott, lighting design is by Erin Miner, and costume design is by Aubrey Hess. Karl Lengel* is stage manager, and Lisa Buck is property master and scenic charge.
