The Festival Opening Ceremony marks the beginning of the 21st Annual Downtown Eastside Heart of the City Festival at the Carnegie Community Centre. Co-founders Terry Hunter and Savannah Walling will reflect on their two-decade legacy while transitioning leadership to a new generation. The event features special guests including Bob Baker/S7aplek from the Squamish Nation, and talented musicians like Gerry Sung and Larissa Healey, alongside a celebration of community and cultural connection. The ceremony will also offer refreshments and an opportunity for attendees to engage in the festival's themes of resilience and connection.
