With nominations announced today, CTV now heads into summer with a triple-threat of big acquisitions as the network confirmed today it has acquired the exclusive Canadian rights to THE 70(TH) ANNUAL TONY AWARDS, airing Sunday, June 12 at 8 p.m. ET/PT on CTV and on the CTV GO app.

Broadcast live from the Beacon Theatre in New York, THE TONYS joins previously announced new series AMERICAN NINJA WARRIOR (Summer 2016) and O.J.: MADE IN AMERICA (June 11) as early headliners of CTV's big-buzz summer slate. Celebrating achievement in Broadway production, THE TONYS meets its match this year as breakthrough late night host and Tony Award-winner James Corden takes the stage as host of the Awards, bringing more of his signature British charm and LATE LATE SHOW laughs to The Big Apple.

"The inherent energy of THE TONYS, coupled with the winning talents of James Corden, is a powerhouse combination and one that is perfectly aligned with CTV's dynamic summer of entertainment offerings," said Mike Cosentino, Senior Vice-President, Programming, CTV Networks and CraveTV. "There's something magical about Broadway that captivates an audience. We're excited to be able to bring that New York magic right to Canadian viewers to experience."

In his first engagement as host of the event, Corden controls the bright lights of Broadway for the night. He'll guide viewers through the performances, (with perhaps a peek at some of his very own signature song and dance), and the handing out of the coveted hardware.

It's a history-making year for fan and critic fave Hamilton, whose 16 nominations become the most in Broadway history. Pulitzer prize-winning creator and star Lin-Manuel Miranda's groundbreaking hip-hop musical about the founding fathers of the United States looks to grab the night's most coveted Tony - Best Musical - against fellow nominees Bright Star, School of Rock - The Musical, Shuffle Along, or The Making of the Musical Sensation of 1921 and All That Followed, and Waitress.

In more critically competitive categories, The Color Purple, Fiddler on the Roof, She Loves Me, and Spring Awakening face off for Best Revival of a Musical, while Eclipsed, The Father, The Humans, and King Charles III make a run at Best Play. In the Best Revival of a Play category, Blackbird, Long Day's Journey into Night, Noises Off, along with reinterpretations of both Arthur Miller's The Crucible and A View from the Bridge, also received nominations.

Home to the biggest live events and awards shows in Canada, CTV celebrates the best in television, film, and now theatre with the addition of THE 70(TH) ANNUAL TONY(®) AWARDS to its star-studded awards show roster. The theatrical celebration takes its place in the summer awards season alongside THE 2016 BILLBOARD MUSIC AWARDS (May 23) and THE 2016 IHEARTRADIO MUCH MUSIC VIDEO AWARDS (June 19).

With THE 70(TH) ANNUAL TONY AWARDS acquisition, it's curtains up for ETALK as Canada's most-watched entertainment news team gets set to deliver exclusive coverage of the night and all the red carpet anticipation on Monday, June 13 at 7 p.m. ET/PT on CTV and CTV GO.

The Fremantle Corporation is the worldwide distributor of THE 70(TH) ANNUAL TONY AWARDS, outside of the U.S.A. Market.
