With an original score and storyline and a cast of top-notch Scottish performers, new musical STREETS looks set to be one of the highlights at this year's Edinburgh Festival Fringe.

Gritty, fast-paced and hard-hitting, STREETS follows a group of young people and their descent into the dangerous world of street crime. This vibrant new show combines musical theatre, drama and physical theatre to explore young love, the want for something more and the power of peer pressure and addiction.

STREETS features an entirely original score from emerging, young Scottish writer/composer Finn Anderson. This will be Finn's Edinburgh debut and he hopes that the show will appeal to "fresh, next-generation audiences as well as all keen musical theatre goers."

Unlike most successful musicals of the past decade, STREETS has a completely original storyline - not based on a film or book. The show excels on its believable characters, plot and the strength of its songs.

Look at the 2012 Fringe programme and you will see that new musicals are in short supply. Rarer still is a new piece of musical theatre from an all-Scottish team. With no funding, the cast of STREETS hope that local support will help make the show a success at this year's Fringe.

Rosemary Stanford, graduate of Liverpool Institute of Performing Arts, is assistant directing and performing as part of the cast: "There is a real buzz in our rehearsal room. We all have a sense that we are working on something very exciting."

You can catch STREETS from 3-11 August, 2.40pm in The Grand Theatre @ Surgeons Hall, Nicolson Street. Get your tickets now from www.edfringe.com, and for more information visit www.streetsthemusical.com.
