In the 450th year of William Shakespeare's birth, Brooklyn based classical actress Klahr Thorsen shares her journey from child actress to the stage of the Globe Theatre as she awakens the Lady Macbeth within. Klahr Thorsen's solo show Screw Your Courage! (or The Bloody Crown!) is inspired by two defining events in her own life: A lifelong obsession with Shakespeare's Lady Macbeth and her own mother's mental illness.
Screw your Courage! (or The Bloody Crown!) tells the story of an actress, cursed as an infant by three witches with an all-consuming ambition to be the best Lady Macbeth of all time. Much like Groundhog Day, the actress must play the role of Lady Macbeth over and over and over again until she gets her performance just right. With many twists and turns on her journey to perfection, will she be able to conquer insanity, Serbians, a New Orleans voodoo queen and enchanted bagpipers long enough to triumph? Will her steadfast relationship with Shakespeare's most famous heroine be enough to attain a faultless performance to finally be free?
Klahr is an actor, director and choreographer who is currently based in Brooklyn. She began performing as a child, and has appeared in over 100 plays, musicals, and stage revues. In 2013, she was selected as an International Acting Fellow at Shakespeare's Globe Theatre in London.
Previews start August 5th, with the show running until August 27th at Greenside@Infirmary Street. For tickets and more information, go to https://tickets.edfringe.com .
