Action to the Word's breathtaking all-male version of A Clockwork Orange returns to the Edinburgh Festival Fringe following its five-star, sell-out run in 2011. This electrifying and testosterone-filled physical theatre horror show exquisitely captures and transcends the spirit of Anthony Burgess' original literary masterpiece, 50 years on from its publication. The show will play August 1-26 at Pleasance Forth in the Pleasance Courtyard at 15:40pm.
A Clockwork Orange drags its audience into the glorious glass-edged nastiness of Manchester's underworld. A playtime of orgiastic ultraviolence and sexuality, it is the story of little Alex and his Droogs in their battle against the tedium of adolescence. An unapologetic jubilation of the human condition, it remains as terrifyingly relevant today as when the book was published in 1962 and when the Stanley Kubrick's film caused a stir in 1971.
Action to the Word was formed in 2008 to create exciting and eclectic classical theatre for a wide audience. In 2011, the company enjoyed success at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe with Constance & Sinestra and the Cabinet of Screams, Titus Andronicus and A Clockwork Orange at C venues.
