Time to get to work on our season opener, Quilters. This amazing musical boasts an all female cast (sorry guys) of pioneer women telling their westward movement tales through song, monologue, and movement. The stories are woven together through the meaning behind each quilting pattern.

The set needs are not heavy for this show, but the ensemble stage "presence" of the actors is essential in getting the stories to the audience.

Please check their website at www.pageplayers.com for audition details. Auditions are August 8-9, at their new location at Charles Page High School Performing Arts Auditorium - Park and Adams Road (turn North at Adams Road exit). Although the website says they will cast 7 women, they will probably cast more than that. The script is not set in stone for 7, so roll on out and come audition with them! This first show, as always, will be our fundraiser show, so it should be a lot of fun and a real crowd pleaser.

Ostensibly the story of a pioneer woman and her six daughters, QUILTERS blends a series of interrelated scenes into a rich mosaic which captures the sweep and beauty, the terror and joy, the harsh challenge and abiding rewards of frontier life. Illuminating stories contained in various patches or "blocks" with music, dance and drama, the action depicts the lot of women on the frontier: girlhood, marriage, childbirth, spinsterhood, twisters, fire, illness and death. But, with this, there is also love, warmth, rich and lively humor and the moving spectacle of simple human dignity and steadfastness in the face of adversity. In the end, when the various patches are assembled into one glorious, brilliantly colorful quilt, the effect is both breathtaking and magical—and a theatrical masterstroke which will linger in the mind and memory long after the house lights have dimmed.

7 roles for women and possibly some bit parts

The story is about a mother (age 50-60ish) and her daughters (ranging in ages from 15-30’s).  Each shares her stories through song, monologue, and short scenes.

No song prep necessary.  We will work a song from the show at auditions.  Scripts will be available for cold readings.
