2b theatre company has announced the launch of a tour that will bring two award-winning 2b productions, The God That Comes and When It Rains, to Canada & to the Edinburgh Fringe Festival, the world's largest performing arts festival.
The tour launches in June, when 2b will be in two places at the same time. The God That Comes, featuring Juno Award-winning rocker Hawksley Workman, plays Toronto's prestigious Tarragon Theatre for a four-week run, from June 3-29. Then When it Rains plays the Magnetic North Theatre Festival, Canada's moveable National Theatre Festival, this year in Halifax, from June 22-25. In August, both productions tour to the Edinburgh Fringe, the world's largest performing arts festival, following which The God That Comes plays at The Stratford Festival from Sept 11-20.
THE GOD THAT COMES - Part Play, Part Concert, All Bacchanalian.
Sometimes we all feel the need to indulge our animal impulses. The God That Comes is a wine- soaked rock & roll cabaret celebrating Bacchus - Greco-Roman god of wine and ecstasy - starring Hawksley Workman. Song-writer, producer, singer, multi-instrumentalist, actor and published author, Workman has headlined prestigious venues like Toronto's Massey Hall and The Olympia in Paris, as well as opening for heroes Morrissey, David Bowie and The Cure.
The God That Comes is co-written by Hawksley Workman and Christian Barry, and directed by Christian Barry.
WHEN IT RAINS - A Live Action Existential Graphic Novel On Stage
Disarming and delightful, When It Rains is equal part black comedy social satire, heartrending meta- drama, and astonishing theatrical illusion. A contemporary spin on the biblical Job story, the play follows a series of probable and improbable events which befall four people, causing marriages to fall apart, communication to fracture, and people to stop bathing, lose control, get naked, sing and have sex with strangers. Some kind of God intervenes. Or observes. Or something. Or nothing.
When It Rains is written and directed by Anthony Black, with projection design by Nick Bottomley, and features Pierre Simpson, Francine Deschepper, Anthony Black and Samantha Wilson.
