BWW:UK speaks to Apphia Campbell about her two Nina Simone-inspired shows that she is performing at this years Edinburgh Fringe.

A brand new musical following the seemingly simple journey of a girl on a single Glasgow Subway car. Forced to face her fears and overcome private demons on this very public platform, surrounded with characters on journeys of their own. Under the Ground explores the phenomenon of loneliness on a train packed with strangers, stories and secrets.

Improvisation is a tricky thing to get right on stage, but what happens when you also have to improvise full band accompaniments, a cappella harmonies and dance routines? The Showstoppers, a talented troupe of improvisers as heard on BBC Radio Four, manage to do just that in their show at the Pleasance Courtyard.

Broadway performer and YouTube sensation Christina Bianco takes you on a hilarious musical comedy journey, showing you what led her to become a multi-faceted, multi-voiced party of one! Christina performs an eclectic selection of your favourite pop, standard and Broadway tunes in her own voice as well as impersonating great divas who have inspired her.

The small English village of Bakewell, Derbyshire is holding its annual baking competition and the eclectic group of contestants, including a local postman, a German transsexual and a nun, are each hoping that their baking skills will impress the judges.

Keeping you at the edge of your seat, Bruce will sweep you away on an adventure of love and revenge. He may be a yellow block of foam, but Bruce's out to prove he's got a heart of pure gold.

The Edinburgh International Festival opened last night with The Harmonium Project, a free outdoor animated performance that lit up the city's key concert hall, to celebrate 50 years of the Edinburgh Festival Chorus. Approximately 19,500 watched a series of projected artworks, designed by 59 Productions, on the Usher Hall whilst listening to John Adams' mesmerising choral work Harmonium. Acclaimed singer, actor and impressionist Christina Bianco returns to Edinburgh Festival Fringe for her solo show Party of One! at Assembly George Square Gardens Spiegeltent Palazzo from tonight 6 - Sunday 16 August, 19.20 (ends 20.20).

A dazzling new show called Nina Simone: Soul Sessions will be performed at Assembly Checkpoint from tonight 6 - Sunday 30 August, 20.50. The concert is devised and performed by Apphia Campbell, creator and star of 2014's Fringe hit Black Is The Color Of My Voice.

London's world-renowned venue Shakespeare's Globe makes its Edinburgh Festival Fringe debut with two shows from the acclaimed family-friendly series Shakespeare Untold, running today 5 - 31 August 2015 (previews 5 - 7 August; no shows 12, 19 & 26 August) at Pleasance Courtyard.
