I could talk for hours and hours about why I think this as a play or a musical should be something that every teenager should watch, listen or read, because nowadays art can save lives.

The end of the semester is a difficult time for all students, but taking care of your mind and body is key to getting through it. Here are some suggestions on how to do just that. Bonus: Grade Calculation Math!

College decision day just happened. You've accepted an offer at a college, but it is not exactly what you were hoping for. You're getting a BA or BM, instead of your dream, a BFA. Not getting a BFA isn't exactly the tragedy that it might seem at first. I was in the same shoes as you, multiple times in fact, and I can honestly say that I am thankful to be a BA major.

For my final project in dramaturgy, I created a casebook on the global sensation Come From Away. My 42 page casebook dove into the musical’s development and historical background, production history, and more. However, my favorite part of the casebook was writing a short dramaturg note that would be hypothetically included in the show’s playbill.

Since theatre has returned to New York City, I have seen many different shows. I’ve been to musicals, plays, and even interactive shows. But nothing can compare to one of the modern classic plays, The Play That Goes Wrong. I’ve been lucky enough to see it twice over the past two months, and even knowing all of the twists and turns, the second performance ended up being just as entertaining, if not more, than the first! Recently, I had the opportunity to interview Chris Lanceley, who plays “Jonathan” in the off-Broadway production of The Play That Goes Wrong at New World Stages.

Every theatre student is always told to read more plays, but oftentimes, it's difficult to find something that holds our attention or seems right for us. After examining this trend among my fellow college theatre students for some time, I started to cobble together a list of play recommendations specifically tailored towards something all of us are very interested in: our zodiac signs! Well. We wrapped up our two-week run of Into the Woods, and it was really something else. For many of the cast, this was their return to live, unmasked theater, and it was a joy to be there (nearly) every step of the way. Six night shows, one matinee, and one KCACTF briefing after months of rehearsal took a lot out of me, but it also gave me some incredibly valuable insights.

As the temperatures rise, the flowers bloom, and the days grow longer, we look forward to several exciting events that come with the beginning of Spring. In the case of the theatre community, theatre practitioners and fans alike are thrilled with the vast array of shows that are beginning their run on Broadway. Both theatre enthusiasts and critics alike flock to new shows, hoping to view an exciting production they will always remember. In turn, the actors, crew and creatives involved with these shows work tirelessly to open a production that will engage audiences and give themselves a sense of accomplishment. Although no shows opened during the Spring of 2021 due to the pandemic, April has already demonstrated that Broadway is back again with the opening of ten new productions! The play that premiered as 'Spring awakening - A children's tragedy' (Spring awakening - A children's tragedy), was a blow to the society of the early nineteenth century, for openly dealing with issues such as abortion, rape, homosexuality, suicide or child abuse, all of this in the environment of young adolescents who awaken to sexuality, drowned by a hermetic environment that does not help them understand the changes and erotic fantasies that live in their body.

Hello Broadway lovers, creators, and theatre students around the world! Welcome back to the blog, and to my favorite segment: Sharing Their Stories. Over the last year, I've shared the journeys and artistic discoveries of notable artists in my DC area, and around the world. Every person I've had the honor to speak with carries unique experiences and perspectives about the constantly changing world of the arts. I hope their stories serve as inspiration, demystification of the road to artistic success, and as fuel to keep creating.

At the end of our first year in Boston University's School of Theatre performance core, we declare our major to decide the theater performance training we'll focus on: BFA Acting or Theatre Arts. For some the decision is easy, whereas for others (*cough cough…* me) it most definitely isn't. 

If you are a fan of musicals, if you dream about seeing your name in the marquee on a Broadway show, if you have a kid that wants to be an artist or if you think you have no chance to be a star (in any way) on the theater or entertainment world, you need to watch Better Nate Than Ever.

Picture a history buff high school freshman, who is hypercritical of this new musical that had just come out a year before about one of the Founding Fathers and is griping about all the historical inaccuracies. Flash forward to 2020, when said musical debuts on Disney+. That newly graduated high school senior had just had her perspective changed.

Although it is important to have physical copies of scripts and scores, I personally prefer to have them on a tablet because it is cleaner. I normally only need them before rehearsals to work out my actions, lines, and character work but the moment I get into the rehearsal, I no longer need them, therefore a soft copy would suffice.

The stage in my high school auditorium became a second home for four years of my life. Following closely behind the field hockey field where I spent hours running through drills, celebrating wins with my teammates and more, the stage brought nothing but comfort during musical season. I laughed, I cried, I made unforgettable memories up there. But when my high school years came to an end, so did my career in musical theater.

As an artist, it can be hard to put yourself before your craft. I turned to the Tisch Drama community to ask: how do artists take care of themselves? What keeps them from getting overwhelmed? What calms them down? Their knowledge resulted in a beautiful collection of artistic advice that I am honored to share with you now.

It's never too late to study something you love. Why am I saying this, because even though I am about to finish my undergraduate study in International Relations (which I do enjoy very much), I am pleased to say that I will be continuing my education in the subject I so dearly love: Musical Theatre

For one of my friends, Nea is the definition of a new start. I first met Nea Somogyi in Costa Rica, almost six years ago. She was working on a production of Into the Woods with her classmates, and she asked me if I was interested in playing the Steward and Cinderella’s Father. I accepted without hesitation, and that musical changed my life.

In December, I was elected as the 2022 President of Penn Singers Light Opera Company and took on the role of producer for our production of Patience. While producing can be an incredibly busy and crazy job with many COVID complications to deal with on top of normal problems, it has been a pleasure to facilitate a fantastic group of artists.
